Looking to start Mining

I am looking to buy my first miner and start mining.  The office space i am renting included my electric in my rent.  There is over 500 offices in the building I am renting, so I am thinking I can make my office work for me and purchase a few miners and have them running 24/7 in order to maximize my profit.  I have been looking for miners to purchase and I am told they have no power supply.  is there a special power supply I need.  Also I found one miner with 2 bad boards, I am not sure if I can buy more boards to replace these and get a good miner cheap.  I am just looking for some recommendations.

Not particularly a special power supply but the one good enough to run the miner so base on the usage of the miner,so you could buy the appropriate power supply... Just make sure that there's a good cooling system in the office too and you have to check the miners from time to time to see if their working normally ... As much as possible buy a miner that doesn't have a dead board just so it wouldn't be a headache afterwards... would you mind telling what miner you were after and what budget you have for the miner + the PSU?

Any PSU PCI-e connector will do. ATX or Server PSU both work. I recommend you stick to EVGA G2, super flower OEM or Seasonic/Seasonic OEM. You can run those at their full rating no problem. EVGA G2's also have 10 years warranty and efficiency rating just under Platinum.

A good middle ground ASIC right now would be the Antminer S5.

Yes, but you need to keep in mind, Corsair doesn't actually make PSU. You need to check the OEM. So corsairs has some bad PSU, and some great PSU. Thats because some are made by Chinese crap and some are made by Super Flower/Seasonic.

For the Thermaltake. They are generally not good but also not too bad. Its not worth cheaping out on PSU, imo. Especially with how affordable the G2/GS and some modular Seasonic PSU are.

Mining has become very competitive in the recent times. I am just buying more coins and holding on to them until the price increases.

Even with free power it would take quite some time to get an ROI.

If your buying an Antminer you can buy the PSU made by BITMAIN.

That would be more cost effective than buying a general PSU.

If your buying an Antminer you can buy the PSU made by BITMAIN.

I can recommend the PSU Bitmain sells > 1300W. It works great with the S7. And even better it is cheaper then when you buy it in a shop.

If your running a large scale farm buying multiple Corsair PSU's will only add more time to your ROI so I prefer the BITMAIN ones.

I wouldn't advice you to go into mining though. There are lot more to consider becides having an office and electricity costs.

 Any bitcoin miner out there worth buying uses a set of standard PCI-E power connectors.
 The only things you need to worry about are "enough +12 power to handle the load" and efficiency of the PS (using anything not 80Plus rated is a waste, even with "free power" as it will limit how much hashrate you can use).

 Even with free power, you probably want to go with fairly efficient units so you can maximise your hashrate. I'd not look at anything older than the Antminer S5 or Spondoolies SP20 units, with the possible exception of an Antminer S3 if a QUIET miner is needed (anything more recent tends to be sorta loud).

 You also need to keep COOLING in mind - most offices are not designed to have kilowatts of heat-generation electrical equipment in a single office.


 As far as brands, if you go with standard ATC supplies I'd recommend Seasonic or EVGA for reliability. After 20+ years of using Seasonic I FINALLY had one die last month - it was replaced with less than a week at the factory + shipping time each way with NO muss NO fuss.
 EVGA has a very good rep for reliability as well.

 The BitMain PS hasn't been around long enough to build a reliability reputation (and early models of it has issues, but those seem to have been fixed since then). It WOULD be a fair bit cheaper *IF YOU HAVE 220V POWER AVAILABLE*.
 If you don't have 220 available forget about it as it's 220v specific.

There is allways option to join some pool ... and I would not suggest to start solo mining. There is a competition for sure, but mining in the pool eliminate it in good way. You will receive your portion.

I tend to keep all my PSU's.  I ROI on them then keep then after a sell a miner some day.   Then when I get a new miner or miners hopefully I don't have to even buy a new PSU.

Only thing that messed this up is bitmains new 10 PCIE shift on gear makes it much more specialized on what options are.

I have read that Litecoin is dead in Altcoint descussion I am not sure but I am not sure about mining.
But I am not bothering doing that because is just cost a lot of power. And in my condition I am sure I will lost alot of money to mine Bitcoin.

I suggest starting with Bitcoin.  It just is a little simpler then altcoin in my eyes, and value is more stable with BTC.  So start here.

On ROI it's not as much about how much power you have in mining power, but more the cost of your power.  You need to make a profit to make ROI.  What is your electricity (with taxes and all) divided down?
