damn I guess that's a near guess but they didn't guess the name. Do that woolong thingy use blockchain too if it is then their prediction came nearer than what I think it is.
well not that near, woolong have physical form
The Woolong (symbol: ₩) is the standard unit of currency in the Cowboy Bebop universe. Woolongs are rarely traded in physical form such as in banknotes and coins; it seems that the 2071 economy is based on digital cash.
no specific details about how the system work but it's digital cash

Neal Stephenson, read Cryptonomicon.

Yes, Neal almost nailed it in Cryptonomicon, but his version was closer to eGold since it was a digital warehousing recepit, and his "distributed ownership verification" system was vague.  Wasn't the digital money in Snow Crash & The Diamond Age closer?  I can't remember now.  Great fiction, though.

"The powers of financial capitalism had another far-reaching aim, nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole. This system was to be controlled in a feudalist fashion by the central banks of the world acting in concert, by secret agreements arrived at in frequent meetings and conferences. The apex of the systems was to be the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland, a private bank owned and controlled by the world's central banks which were themselves private corporations. Each central bank...sought to dominate its government by its ability to control Treasury loans, to manipulate foreign exchanges, to influence the level of economic activity in the country, and to influence cooperative politicians by subsequent economic rewards in the business world."

- Carroll Quigley, CFR member, mentor to Bill Clinton, from 'Tragedy And Hope'

Did anybody predict a bitcoin type system before it was technologically possible?

And similarly, does anybody now have any idea of how a currency could be more pure then bitcoin if only we had the technology?

Episode 1 The Bitcoin Simpsons: The Simpsons climb Mt Gox (7:07)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duoyacLJpKI  or  http://vimeo.com/24718978

Who predicted bitcoins? Nobody I guess. But if there is someone who predicted it, it is the creator itself Satoshi Nakamoto. I believe that he has predicted that bitcoins will revolutionize the future of currency and he has this vision that inspire him to create such a currency online. And that gave birth to bitcoin then it was copied then gave birth to cryptocurrency economy.
