https://news.bitcoin.com/facebook-latin-america-taringa-just-paid-76000-bitcoin-users/

Just over six months after the launch of its Creadores program, Latin America’s biggest social network Taringa! has distributed 195 BTC — or $76,000 USD — to its top content creating users in what may be one of the best use-cases for the cryptocurrency to date.

This is VERY good exposure to a very large user base... a good boost to Bitcoin.  Grin

I think this is how it should work regarding to social networks or platforms like forums.
I mean the user is the one who makes it possible that these platforms are alive and can grow.
No users=no content=forum/network will die.
Therefore it's just fair to let the user participate on the financial income.

It is a good example of the usage of bitcoin. Bitcoin can be used to pay the work of other people. I hope more people will be paid in bitcoin.

The amount is not much, but they will be able to gain a lot of positive publicity out of this. I just hope that the other social network sites will also follow this example. I am not hoping that Facebook will do something like this, but some of the smaller and medium-sized sites will be able to gain a lot of followers using similar tactics.

Agree that it is not huge amount. But from the other hand do you see any other social networks giving money to its users? I don't. So that mean it is huge leap forward regardless.
Facebook won't do something like this ever, their business model won't allow openly credit users with money.

Agree about that, but this is not related on how many they give to them, is just about that they did it!, from my point of view is just awesome that a company like taringa did it for his users, +1 for them without any dude.

Lets hope more will follow them since is a pretty good idea Wink

IMHO #1.b of suspects, Hal Finney is/was S.N.

And those users will use their bitcoins to purchase things. That liquidation has to be supported by either merchants accepting bitcoin payment or investors on exchanges

The ultimate support needs to come from merchants, and is driven by payment processors like bitpay. At first merchants might cash out their coins immediately on exchanges, but over time they will discover that bitcoin always goes up in value long term wise, so some merchants start to hold bitcoin as reserve, and if in future every merchants have certain amount of reserve, they would directly use bitcoin to settle their transactions

Taringa might just have sparked something with this. There are always competition between social media for market share. If Taringa continue with this, they might just grab a share of other social media platforms and grow much bigger. We might just see a competitor to Facebook rising from the ashes.

I am just glad someone is rewarding content creators and they are exposing people to Bitcoin in the process. This might just spark curiosity with the other Taringa users, who did not receive this. ^hmmm^
