HYIP SCAMS - We need to do something

Hello Friends,

HYIP Scams have a long history in the internet.
And with bitcoin HYIPS, almost 99.99% turn out to be scammers.

And the most disturbing part popular websites like BitcoinTalk are being used as "baits"
by these scammers... so sad.


Don't you think we need to do something about this???

I personally have been scammed many times. Almost every little satoshi I earned from faucets have been eaten up by scammy Hyips.

I have started this thread so that at-least here at BitcoinTalk web can take some steps so that
new users wont get their bitcoins lost.

Suggest your ideas that can be implemented so this problem can be curbed.

One suggestion I would like to give is that "newbie" users should not be allowed to directly post any
new Hyip program. Instead they would be required support from any senior member and that senior member will post the
information about the HYIP.

Another suggestion can be some fixed "security deposit" system here before allowing the hyip be posted here.

Hyip are usually easy to spot and you can use the old
"to good to be true" meter and run in the other direction.

To be honest, there is nothing we can do to stop the HYIP from coming to BitcoinTalk. Because admin just don't have the time to monitor scams.
The best we can do is to give negative rep to these HYIP owner.

You can't do anything to stop them, if you take one down, ten others will pop up.
Just be smart yourself and don't support them.

Or people could just stop giving them money? I don't care whether they're allowed here or not but they're not going to provide you with a deposit because they're gambling. It's like asking dice sites to give you their money back once you've lost it with them. Don't take the gamble in the first place.

I think directly posting new hip should not be allowed without support from any senior member.
It will at least bring some trustworthiness... maybe

That will just increase the amount of accounts being sold, duh!

Pretty much all sites in "Investor-based games" are scams, that's why I ignore that whole forum.

If those HYIPs post outside that forum (and/or have signature campaigns), then you should definitely create a topic in the "Scam accusation" forum, so we can give the site owner negative trust if needed.

Does this signature campaign count as promoting a ponzi? No one has taken an effort to prove that it is indeed a ponzi, nor do I think anyone will.
Oh and there was this one , but no "action" was taken as well. The only sig campaign started by a ponzi and was appropriately marked was: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1275755.0;topicseen

Yeh, some of the "slightly less obvious" cloudmining ones are a bit more time consuming.

Many of us did gave negative trust to CloudThink when they were running their signature campaign. But personally I only did that after having enough good arguments to say why it's fake/ponzi/etc. Even though it was obvious from the start (for me personally), I still felt I needed proper arguments to justify negative trust (which was only few days after they started though.) Overall, researching/collecting arguments/discussing with the site owner - takes time and unfortunately I personally don't have the time to do that for that 2 cloudmining sites

Too bad you didn't learn about ponzis and HYIPs before coming here, but you got an expensive education at the University of Bitcointalk.  But for a lot of us, we know if it sounds too good to be true...it's not true.  You got greedy and you got fleeced.  Move on.

Wouldn't it be good that rather than banning them from the forum, we better educate the users to not to be selfish and not to throw away their money in these scams. An increase in common sense would be a good tool against preventing HYIP scams.

Thats exactly why people should give the owners of these sites red trust to alert the users. Honestly, if its still not obvious enough that money doesnt fall from the sky with no reason and people still invest loads of money into such a site and lose all their money - its mostly their fault.

There are too many of them popping up. You really think a DT member would keep arguing and collecting evidence against so many of them?

Yeah, but I guess there's not much we can do. There are plenty of warnings in the investor based games section, and members are warning newbies on the threads.

I think we should just leave it how it is. OP, if you keep losing your money because you invest in HYIPs, perhaps you shouldn't invest in HYIPs. There are other ways to make bitcoin, try looking around in the services section for jobs you might be able to perform. Good luck!
