I think its totally dumb to use too many wallets. You can use one for your regular daily transactions and one for your savings maybe or your urgent deposits. But again ,your wallets like blockchain gives options to have a different address to receive bitcoins if you want so don't really need to change accounts or create a new wallet at all.

Mostly escrows here use a new wallet for each transaction to be safe while other users like me own 3 wallets as I wanted t check which is safe and better to use. It is useful to keep your funds in more than one wallet just like you have more than 1 bank as keeping all your eggs in 1 basket isn't a wise thing to do. This way if one wallet shuts down, the coins from the other wallet remain safe as none of the bitcoin wallets are safe and secure.

Privacy. Too many people think Bitcoin is completely anonymous. For every new transaction you receive you should use a new bitcoin address. Even if some of them cross over with each other and match up as being apart of the same cluster, it's just better for your privacy.

Because Satoshi recommended 1 address for each transaction for security and privacy.

Of course the same wallet may contain more than one address

Just wondering why people use so many Bitcoin wallets.

Convenience. You can take a mobile wallet in your pocket. You want another type of wallet for cold storage.  Second reason is security, by spreading funds they have less risk. Risks may include:  physical theft (in your home) or website getting hacked.

For me, I am using web wallets and mobile wallets only because I do not own a personal computer. At first I tried several wallets but now I m using blockchain, mycelium and coinbase
I use multiple wallets because I like not to put all the eggs in one basket.

People use so many bitcoin wallets as it is wise to do so. I use diffrent wallet for faucets and diffrent one for daily needs and so on. I do that to keep track of what and how much i earn.

I only use blockchain.info and coinbase, I know that they aren't the best secured wallets you can get, but they are certainly the most convenient IMO.

Others may use cold wallets or paper wallets because they want to secure their fortunes a bit more. But I don't really give about half a coin  Wink

I think people use more than one wallet because they think it safe enough.
but so far I only have one wallet, I quite feel safe.

Exactly. I find it very weird that people think it is safer to use multiple wallets. I only use 2 Wasleys, and nothing has ever happened to them.

You didn't really answer my question. My question is why do people use multiple wallets, not addresses. I also use multiple addresses, who doesn't.

Really...... Blockchain.Info. With all its bugs and crashes you are still using it. It also had a low level of security compared to Coinbase. I only use blockchain.info to check blocks and addresses. But I do use coinbase as it's a great web wallet.

Well, its not exactly the feeling of safety for me...its the anonymity. The reason why I don't do ALL my transactions on one address is because all of my transactions will be visible to anyone, they can also find out what I was buying and when...its like posting up your bank transaction history

Just like the guy I just replied to, I am not asking why you use multiple addresses, I am asking why you use multiple wallets. Please read the topic more clearly before you make a response.

I really only use Mycelium on my phone, but it generates multiple addresses.  I know that's different.  But I also use a Xapo wallet for when I do their faucets.  I used to  have a blockchain one, but it just totally sucked, but those are all I use.

Can't you just use 1 wallet with multiple addresses if you wanted privacy? I feel that that is much more convenient way to get around the privacy factor.

You actually still do faucets. I thought we had gotten past the day and age when people did faucets, but I guess not. Signature campaign is much faster way of earning bitcoin.

Phone and PC.  Looking at cold storage next.

For me its about convenience and security.  I keep spending cash on my phone and the rest on my PC (with the key stored both in a private drive and offline).

Cold storage will come when I have enough BTC laying around where I'm comfortable keeping some "unreachable" (ie i can't get at it for impulse purchases).

every one must have more than one wallet because if something happends for the only wallet you have you will lose all your savings if you have many wallets when one get hacked or forget password you will still have the other wallets this way you keep you losses short

Isn't it great to have choices nowadays. This is a great advantage of Bitcoin in my opinion. I use 3 wallets and trust me I have tried almost all of them out there and I have chosen the 3 that suits me the best.

And all of the others I have tried have something to offer to their users!

Because people love variety. Because Bitcoin wallets use different technologies functioning. Because people have different views about the convenience.
