Well welcome!

There has been multiple thread about this topic so this might help you out https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1290266.0
There are a bunch of wallets out there and in that thread some people are explaining why they use certain wallets and which ones to stay away from.

I didn't recommend any of those. I recommend with high responsibility Coinbase. I ma telling only few of the qualities that have such wallet. All the fees that you pay in all the other wallets when send bitcoin, in this wallet are paid by the wallet. So no fee for you. Any kind of fee. Then 98% of customer funds are stored offline. Offline storage provides an important security measure against theft or loss. Coinbase distribute bitcoin geographically in safe deposit boxes and vaults around the world. So every possible hacking will have, maximum, only a few satoshi as "earnings" for their work. Coinbase is insured against employee theft and hacking in an amount that exceeds the average value of online bitcoin it holds at any given time. Specifically, Coinbase's insurance policy would respond in the event that bitcoin stored in Coinbase was lost or stolen as a result of a breach of our physical security, cyber security, or as a result of employee theft. There are even much more but if you are interested can go to their site and discover all yourself. Do a search with this name and will appear immediately their site.

Do you want to use a hardware wallet or a desktop version or an online wallet ? These are the few options you can consider .I would recommend using Hardware wallet : If you have lot of bitcoins and you need to save them .

Desktop version :
If you're really comfortable with tech terms like PGP and encryption you can use an install wallet version on your desktop .

Online wallet :
Just for daily simple transactions for a newbie in bitcoin ,use blockchain.info or xapo.I still suggest use blockchain.info.very simple to use .Also note I haven't disclosed names of hardware or desktop wallets as I'm not really sure which one's are the best.

I actually used quite a few of them and as far as classification goes blockchain and electrum are the fastest and easiest to use clients and fit the need gor rapid access to BTC. multibit is slow but better since you don't depend on an intermediate site, bitcoin client is slow but the original, armory is the best if you are dealing with large amounts of BTC in offchain settings.

For now if you want to just discover bitcoin just have a online wallet like BlockChain.
Try some faucets or try sole alt coins and invest.
When you type in google like "Bitcoin getting started" you well see what you need to do. What is bitcoin, which wallet and more.

if you have a safe pc, which does not mean adding antivirus, but mean that you're diligent in not installing crap random .exe and stuff like that

you can go with the desktop version, which i believe is the best, 100% control over your money

Look into offline wallets like a paper or hardware wallet.
Never leave any coins on a exchange or online wallet for long.
Move them offline at the end of your day.

Use mycelium or alike so you can sweep you paper wallet when you need to acsess you bitcoins.

Among xapo & bitwallet, i would recommend xapo. Because, bitwallet is not yet even added on https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet and after these wallets, i'll recommend you to use some offline/desktop wallet. That will be flexible too to use. Because, of the online wallets were shared wallet so you won't able to get the private keys of your address.

Blockchain isn't that good as the website has been down almost thrice to 4 times and due to this major transactions have been delayed. The total communities too now prefer blocktrail as there hasn't been any complaints.

Other wallets which are good including Electrum.

I would go with a mobile wallet such as Airbitz or Mycelium. Avoid blockchain wallet and web wallets such as Coinbase or Circle. You can have funds frozen on those.

Mycelium has a local trader built in. Airbitz has 20% discount on Starbucks and 10% off Target built in through Fold. Airbitz is both on iOS and Android while Mycelium is only on Android. Oh another potential good one is Breadwallet but that is only on iOS.

In closing go for Airbitz, Mycelium, and Breadwallet.

Long term storage then the obvious choice is Ledger or Trezor or Armory and paper wallets encrypted with passwords.

I would second this, been using mycelium for a while now and its great. For desktop i use bitcoin core which does the job but obviously a big download.

i would recommend you to use the blockchain.info online wallet as it would be really easy to start with there is a demo account that you can check out before dealing with real bitcoins after this wallet you could search for more complicated ones
