According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

For this specific activity?  Not that I know of.

On the other hand, it's quite possible that he could be sitting in a jail somewhere for some other crime and that he just hasn't told anyone that he was also responsible for this.
