Hi all . I saw this article and got to wondering how I could contribute to the bitcoin network. http://bitcoinist.net/btcc-deploys-full-bitcoin-nodes-to-keep-network-secure/

i don't have a synced wallet on a computer as it must take up quite a bit of space now I imagine (?).
What are the ways to contribute?

Ways to contribute? Use bitcoin. You don't need to mine or have a full client wallet in your machine to help bitcoin, using bitcoin for buying and buying bitcoin itself can be a contribution to the network. Also, AFAIK you can submit some of your revisions in the code in GitHub, that is also one contribution I could think of.

If your a coder, you could contribute by helping to find and test if there is anything wrong and tell it to the developers and if your just a regular user, you could either mine to help with the transaction and to inject more Bitcoins to the network or just buy Bitcoin using your own money and help it get circulated to the system.

it don't take too much space to run core , it's 60 gb, you can do it easily nowadays plenth of space even among the best ssd

if you want to support the network running a full node is the best way, or if you can, you can simply go with the mining route

Buying a VPS and run a Bitcoin Node on it. Note that it requires some space and money so this may be a problem.

Otherwise, try getting a raspberry pi 2, attach an old HDD on it and let it run there. You do need some optimizations however due to the limited ram available on raspberry pi 2.

IMO, the best way to contribute is to use Bitcoin. With more volume, merchants would be enticed to try to accept it.

I'm not sure if there are other ways for you to contribute to the actual network itself, basically you can either mine or operate a full node and that's it (as far as I know). You're still helping a little every time you sync a wallet with the network even if it's not a constant thing. The blockchain has now reached over 50 GB in size.

Before reading this I guess I thought that only miners mattered on the network and not a full client, I would like to run one just to help out the network.

Besides the amount of storage space that it uses (which indeed is not too much), ot also uses a lot of bandwidth.

I can imagine that some providers are not to happy with you running a full node depending on your plan.

how I could contribute to the bitcoin network?
What are the ways to contribute?

Go to every store in your town and ask if you can pay with BTC. If they don't know what it is, you'll explain them.
Write and call Amazon and all big online stores to ask them how you can pay with BTC.
Try to pay your utility companies with BTC.
Try to pay your doctor and dentist with BTC.
Etc...

This would help a lot, and it won't take anything but your time.

not so much, if you limit your connection speed, i dunno if this will impact your node, otherwise yeah it can be a problem since many have 5-10 mega in speed

There are a lot of thing that you can do to help bitcoin project, running a node, mining are basics, but Bitcoin project needs people that help new users to know how to use it, people that uses bitcoin to buy or to sell. For example writing about bitcoin in a blog can help that new people joins that project.

If you want to help Bitcoin in general promote it to the friends, merchants, media etc.
We need a lot people using and promoting bitcoin before BTC becomes mainstream.
It will happen sooner if everybody helps.

Well running a full Bitcoin node will be a start... I would suggest that you share with us, what other skills you might have, that might help with the network or any other part of

the community. In a sense.. some people have certain skills that might be more suitable for other parts of the community. I know some programmers developing Bitcoin related APP's

that are doing a damn fine job... helping the "network"

What are the ways to contribute?

Spread the word, spread the word and again spread the word about it. The main key of everything has to do with bitcoin is the spread of word about it. The most known it the more strong it become. In every kind of meaning. every new enter in its world is a new important and heavy stone in its castle. More people will want it more attention will have, more resources will be allocated for it and more better it will be. In every kind of meaning.

One way that I beleve will contribute is to avoid referring to Bitcoin as "cash". Cash is money in the form of coins or notes, and Bitcoin will not replace that. Cheques, credit cards, bank transfers, bank savings accounts and the like are all based on virtual currencies, and this is Bitcoin's growth area.

It's impressive how much an idea can spread just by talking about it with acquaintances and friends. That's what I've been doing lately.

I can't read the article because website is down.

Anyway, I think you don't need to download bitcoin core wallet to contribute in the bitcoin network.

You can easily contribute with spending your bitcoin to buy some goods and services and also educate your friend about bitcoin.
