How come they solved 67, 68, 69 but didn't bother to go for 135, 140? Having public key could have given them an advantage.
Somehow I feel this challenge has become boring, there are only a select few working on it with hundreds of GPUs.

No brainstorming ideas, no collaboration. Nothing interesting other than hundreds of BTCs seating idle without being used for something helpful. I.e. , I have decided to establish an English language center to help youngs in my country to learn and migrate to better places where war doesn't exist, where opportunities exist to help them flourish and in turn help others when they succeed.  And the painful part is that all I need for an advance to rent a place is less than half a BTC.  But when I see those coins in this challenge, all I can say is disappointment.

Proposed Redistribution Analysis of the Bitcoin Puzzle Rewards

To fund Puzzles 71 through 83, the creator must move the Bitcoin from the addresses of Puzzles 84–160 (excluding 135/140/145 to 160). Since the total reward for all 78 unsolved puzzles is 916.5 BTC, no new capital is introduced — the funds are simply reallocated from the higher, currently less attractive puzzles into the more acceptable  71–83 puzzles.

The funniest part isn't even the math. It's the assumption that somewhere there's a Bitcoin Puzzle creator sitting in a penthouse in Dubai, sipping a martini, looking at Bitcointalk and thinking:

"Hmm... that guy has a point. Time to rebalance the entire reward structure."

That's the part where the whole proposal falls apart.

The puzzle has followed the same reward schedule since day one. Nobody was promised that rewards would scale with difficulty, GPU prices, electricity costs, Bitcoin price, or expected ROI. The reward schedule is part of the puzzle itself.

If some puzzles are no longer economically attractive, that's just the market. Nobody rewrites the rules because the expected return isn't what people would like it to be.

And moving the coins isn't some harmless accounting exercise. Spending those outputs reveals public keys, permanently changes the structure of the challenge, introduces unnecessary security considerations, and destroys one of the core properties of the puzzle: that the rewards have remained untouched for years.

So the proposal is basically trying to solve a problem that only exists if you first assume the creator actually wants to redesign the challenge.

And that's before we get to the best part.

Convincing an anonymous person, who hasn't touched the puzzle in years, to move almost a thousand BTC because someone on Bitcointalk made a nice spreadsheet.

You are quite right, I honestly just did not think of this. What is especially embarrassing, is this did not occur to me once, in two years. By way of excuse, I was not really thinking much about the puzzle at all.

I will spend from 161-256 to the unsolved parts, as you suggest.  Probably in the next few weeks. At any rate, when I next have an extended period of quiet and calm, to construct the new transaction carefully.
