I like Christmas for the most part, but my wife's mom's side of the family still insists on giving each other gifts. So now i have to shop for people that are 40 or 60 years old... sure I'll give them a bottle of wine or something like that.... if you ask me its a moo point.

"Christmas is for the kids!", I try explain to tell them.

They call me the Grinch...

anyway this Christmas, I'm giving everyone bitcoins!

I don't hate Christmas itself, I think it could be a very nice idea, what pisses me off is all the bullshit like where you're constantly pressured to be sociable with family you never see etc.

This, I don't get much enjoyment out of socializing with random people (That's what most of my family is to me). But that's just me.

Feeling like a clone here. Hate Christmas for reasons already mentioned (not fond of the "CHRISTmas" bullshit from certain misguided Christians, either, can't stand the feeling of obligation when receiving "gifts" [when a teen, I'd tear up checks for birthday/Christmas/graduation], and deeply hate consumerism). Bad past experiences don't help, either. This year, only seeing close relatives on two dates. Will have dinner with close relatives on my mom's side tomorrow, and Dad'll spend Christmas day with us. Wife's getting materials for nursing education, neighbors get cookies and pasta in exchange for a couple dozen eggs, and daughter might be dressed up for our amusement. Otherwise, no Christmas celebrations here.

- And one last "fuck you" to people who waste electricity on those old-timey Christmas lights. - Or those fucking blow-up Santa dolls. Oh, and let's go cut down a tree so we can throw plastic crap on it for a few weeks, then burn it. GAAAH! This society literally produces tons of plastic and ceramic shit just to use for two months out of the year on a commercially-perverted "holiday." -AND THERE'S NO FUCKING MAIL DELIVERY!  Angry Angry Angry Angry

Yes, I'm sure most people know this already, but never ever order anything in December unless you absolutely have to, postal service is always too busy mailing Christmas cards etc.

Commercialization of Christmas has really taken the fun out of the holidays.  Consumers are bombarded with Christmas ads the day Halloween ends, and its getting earlier every year.

Quote from: Eliezer Yudkowsky

Quote
People who grow up believing certain things,
even if they later stop believing them,
may not quite realize how the beliefs sound to outsiders...

(SCENE:  A small cottage in Nazareth.)

Joseph:  Mary, my dearest fiancé, there's something I've been meaning to talk to you about.

(Mary's shoulders slump.  Slowly, as if under a heavy burden, she turns around to face Joseph.)

Joseph:  You seem to be getting fat around the waistline, and throwing up in the morning, and, er, not getting any periods.  Which is odd, because it's sort of like -

Mary:  Yes!  I'm pregnant!  All right?  I'm PREGNANT!

Joseph:  How is that possible?

(Mary's shoulders slump further.)  Mary:  How do you think?

Joseph:  I don't know, that's why I'm asking you.  I mean, you're still a virgin, right?

(Mary looks up cautiously, and sees Joseph's face looking blankly puzzled.)

Joseph:  Well?

Mary:  God did it.

Joseph:  You had sex with -

Mary:  No!  Haha.  Of course not.  I mean, God just snapped his fingers and did one of those miracle things and made me pregnant.

Joseph:  God made you pregnant.

Mary:  (Starts to sweat.)  Yes.

Joseph:  Mary, that is just so... completely...

(Mary's eyes squeeze shut.)

Joseph:  ...COOL!

(Mary opens her eyes again, cautiously.)

Mary:  You think so?

Joseph:  Of course!  Who wouldn't think so?  Come on, we've got to tell everyone the news!

Mary:  Maybe we should keep this between just the two of us -

Joseph:  No, no, silly girl, this is way too important!  Come on!

(Joseph grabs Mary's wrist and drags her out of the house.)

Whatever meaning Christmas once had is fading rapidly, as it becomes just another commercialized excuse to spend all your money on buying things for other people that they don't want or need.

It already starts the day before Thanksgiving, what more do you want? Where I live it goes from november to Jan. 6. Jesus Christ, how horrifying!

This...A thousand times, yes!

I enjoy Christmas a lot.
Normally I have a nice dinner with close family, and I don't have to buy gifts for anyone, it's the other way around  Grin. This might change with time...  Embarrassed
I spend my money in stuff I want, and I'd prefer everyone to do the same.

I don't like to have a tree full of crap and lights, actually, I don't have any kind of decoration.
