I am curious about what the final amount of DASH coin will be? I found different information.

Coingecko states the final amount will be 22 million. https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/dash

MapOfCoins states 184.460.000.000 coins http://mapofcoins.com/bytecoin/dashcoin_dsh

What is right?

Ask someone "can i pay with Dash?" and they may think you are talking about the payment app, not the cryptocurrency.

Dashcoin [DSH] is a textbook example on how de-centralized virtual currencies are supposed to work, and why the developers are not administrators as per the FinCEN guidance. https://www.fincen.gov/statutes_regs/guidance/html/FIN-2013-G001.html, They also cannot be issuers of the coin as a security. Other good examples are Monero (The takeover from thankful_for_today) and of course Bitcoin (The two sides on the blocksize debate). Market capitalization is not critical here given the wide range of capitalizations of the examples above.

What occurred with Dashcoin is that the Darkcoin Foundation attempted to buy Dashcoin as if it were a centralized virtual currency in order to become its administrator, as per the FinCEN guidance. The original intent was to shut it down. The motive for this was that they needed the common law trademark rights associated with the word dash for a trademark dispute with a third party. There was even an investor in the then Darkcoin who figured on purchasing 51% of all Dashcoins in order to "control" Dashcoin as if it were a company. His motivation was to protect his investment in the then Darkcoin after the failed takeover attempt of the Darkcoin foundation. The key here is that both of these attempts to turn Dashcoin into a centralized virtual currency failed, despite the minuscule capitalization of Dashcoin.

Concerned that blockchain bloat will lead to centralization? Storing less than 4 GB of data once required the budget of a superpower and a warehouse full of punched cards. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/87/IBM_card_storage.NARA.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punched_card

final amount = waaaay less than the original total supply that was advertised when Evan launched which was like 80,000,000 or so.

Yup the scam is coming out.

By reducing the supply he lied and stole from future users of Darkcoin/Dash from the original social contract that was setup by him in the first place.

So evan is a liar and a thief essentially.

Not to mention his double speak about starting a "for profit startup" then later claiming he was doing Dark/Dash as a "hobby".

What are you talking about? The network has a consensus mechanism the miners and full nodes decide what version of the software to run. Any parameters that want to be changed to give the network the best chances of long term survival must be accepted by miners and node operators so they decide what direction the coin takes.

Dash investors, miners and node operators are very happy with the results and the progress of the project and will decide what direction to take regardless of what your opinion is.

Hi Artic, I know you to be a reasonable person so let me just try to clarify something, the intention was never to shut down DSH, as you mentioned we were interested in the trademark rights so it was good for the project to continue working, for it to die would have been against our interests.  The idea of us wanting DSH to die is just propaganda from the forums.

The other thing you mention is about that user MyFarm that has nothing to do with the Dash project other than having invested in it at some point and is AWOL for a long time now.

Even today the DSH marketcap is higher than before Dash took an interest in the project so the outcome was positive for everyone.

@Minotaur26

I like how you did not even address Evan's double speak where he was hiring c++ coders for a FOR-PROFIT startup then claimed it was a "Hobby". <--- A FACT, not my opinion. Get it straight.

Typical Dash shill who has tunnel vision and only addresses part of the argument.

To address your response, when you say Dash investors, miners and node operators are very happy with the results and the progress of the project and will decide what direction to take regardless of what your opinion is.....

Speak for yourself as I'm pretty sure some people left because of all the shady actions of Evan and CO. not to mention Vertoe left because of similar reasons.

I agree.  Duffield was probably worried about getting stigmatized by Bitcoin's being used in the dark market, when it should have been embracing it in the first place.  Dash should have remained Dark and should have pushed as a better alternative for dark markets, if the coin is truly anonymous that is.  I really have no deep understanding about Dash's technical side.

All I know is 'it could be anonymous.'

anyway it was an amazing display of power a decentralized crypto currency showed back then (by dashcoin). you DASH/darkcoin people failed and then try to white wash what happened.

Hi Ariel, no one failed, it was important for us for Dashcoin to continue as I already explained.

You are quoting something from our own forum, you must understand it was a complicated process for us too, re brands are not easy people at the time were wondering if the Dash team was going to take care of DSH and the answer to that was no, we would not continue with that project ourselves.

Anyway I just wanted to clarify this for Artic, I am not really looking to convince you of anything.  We are happy with the results.

well dashcoin is still alive because of decentralization...evan created confusion.

MapOfCoins states 184.460.000.000 coins http://mapofcoins.com/bytecoin/dashcoin_dsh

this is outdated and wrong dashcoin is not POS + POW

the supply is not 184 billion it is 18.4 million

Even today the DSH marketcap is higher than before Dash took an interest in the project so the outcome was positive for everyone.

what part of Evan Duffield's statement you can't understand?

"the acquired project itself will not continue"

https://dashtalk.org/threads/official-statement-on-rebranding-to-dash.4297/

anyway it was an amazing display of power a decentralized crypto currency showed back then (by dashcoin). you DASH/darkcoin people failed and then try to white wash what happened.

We are happy with the results.

kindly elaborate this statement...if dashcoin continue working and what if not?

it reached all time low during that time, it only became slightly higher when you failed to kill dashcoin and that brings confidence to DSH coin and exposure..

you wanted it dead so you can have the name all for yourselves.

This may be off-topic but I think they should have stuck with the Darkcoin name.

There's too much competition with the name DASH. Google search "DASH" and you'll find KarDASHian clothing, something to do with coding, paywithdash.com that appears to be a mobile payment app, and DASH soap.

Ask someone "can i pay with Dash?" and they may think you are talking about the payment app, not the cryptocurrency.

Dash is a total failure when it comes to brand recognition even way worse than Goldcoin.
With so many companies, products, services, Diat, Dash Express Video Streaming standard, Cryptocurrency (Dashcoin), Japanese manga,   repository Morse code, unprocessed cooking ........unique brand recognition is impossible.
For Bitcoin, Darkcoin, Whatevercoin no company or product exist and its easy recognized as a cryptocurrency.
