im finally having some spare time soon and its time to dust off two of my custom gpu rigs that were waiting for almost two years. one is 6x r9 290, another is 4x 7970. the elecy is free.
could anyone please enlighten me whether there is any point to do any of it? i know that the asics took over scrypt. but is there any other gpu only coins out there that i can mine? im confused with all the miner software and pools out there. can anyone please direct me towards a descent multipool perhaps?
i installed the minergate software but it wont detect the gpus.. so much changed in two years.
thank you.

The X coins are all I know of:

http://cpucoinlist.com/how-to/how-to-cpu-mine-x11/

http://www.dragonblogger.com/how-to-mine-any-coin-using-amd-gpus-on-x13-algorithm/

But someone said they were mining Ethereum with GPU's but never responded to my PM about how to do it Sad

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=428589.0

Good luck,PM me if you figure something out,I have 4 GPU's just sitting around  Cool

With a GPU you can mine each coin that doesn't have SHA256 or Scrypt algo. Even most CPU coins can be mined by GPUs.

There are a lot of options for you:

- Sell your hashrate to Nicehash, with their Win-Tool you always mine the most profitable algo https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1274983.0
- Any coin with X11, X13 or X15 algo (like Dash, Start, HTML, ...) -> https://suprnova.cc/
- Other GPU mineable algos like NeoScrypt, Lyra2REV2, Whirlpool, Qubit, Groestl (VNL, DMD, MYR, FTC, ORB,..)
- Minergate with its coins like BCN, XMR,... Use this mining software https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=638915.0
- SteakCloud, it's a special Multipool operated by a trustworthy member of the altcoin world - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1178345
- Ethereum, but I'm not familiar with it - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1163395.0
- Other Multipools

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1103260.0 (Payouts in Dash)
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=863974 (Payouts in BTC)
https://www.ipominer.com/

http://poolpicker.eu (Check profitability, you can use all algos except SHA256 and Scrypt)

As you can see, many options for GPU rigs and there are many more I just forgot to mention. Have fun Smiley

X11 with AMD GPUs is marginal any more, with the hugh improvements in the Maxwell-based NVidia cards and the upgrades to the related miner software.

Forget SHA256 and Scrypt - Scrypt hasn't been profitable for GPUs since shortly after that Gridseed 3355 came out.

I'm no longer legendary just in my own mind!

In this case I think it would be the best solution to use Nicehash and add 1 or 2 backup pools as failover options, in case Nicehash is down.
If you're on Windows, use their new mining software (first link in my previous post), let the earnings send to your preferred BTC wallet.

If i was you i would look into Decred right now (just search altcoin announcement part of the forum). I think they will be using Blake and from how it looks like it will be a GPU only coin for now. It seems like it is going to be good and you could make some solid coin if you get in on it from the start Smiley

Cheesy  Yeah after lookin around I got it!!! 670GTX gets 4.5 mhs  Roll Eyes

Gonna see what my 6950 & 7970 get  Wink

BTW,I didn't fill this in & it still works, but what goes here Huh  yourhashrate.in.MH  As I have no idea what my cards will do until I run em.......

Thanks!!!  Cool

NVM,figured that out  Cheesy

If your card for example is hashing at 10 MH/s you put that into your Hasher URL. You will always see lots of "got work package" as the miner is simply working on the packages and if its able to solve a package, it will submit it to the pool. If it solved a package, it gets submitted with a certain difficulty, the pool and the difficulty algorithm calculates the "lost" packages in - so you'll also get some amount for that packages, so it is nothing to worry about, thats how Difficulty works

6950 will not work. 7970 should get around 23 Mh/s. 7970 is the most efficient and best value for money card for Ethereum mining.

Definitely,
GPU rigs can be put to use on (alt) coin mining. Specifically non-Sha 256 coins, or other ASIC resistant coins.

I'm very new to alt coin mining, on average how many Mh/s can you get from an AVERAGE GPU?

GPU works well on Ethereum, X11, 13, 15 and cryptonote coins. There is no ASIC for those coins yet. Ethereum and Cryptonote are ASIC resistant.

I would not mine with my GPU.
It's one of the vital parts of your pc, and you won't earn real money by wasting your energy and GPU card.
