I thought this deserves more attention! Is that a breakthrough for Bitcoins? A forumer here had successfully traded his bitcoins for a car. In the process, he encountered a couple of scammers but he managed to shoo them away. So now we know it is possible to purchase a car with bitcoins. You can view the discussion here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1290868.msg13468119#msg13468119What's next? Trade BTC for a house?

This is nothing new but it's good you brought it up, a lot of the new people on here might not be aware that these things are possible. There are many car dealerships that have already started accepting Bitcoin and there are quite a few instances of people buying property using Bitcoin

Don't mean to down play the achievement but was hoping you were talking about a dealership or car company accepting bitcoin. Still one step closer to that actually happening.

Well so far, I think anythig can be bought by bitcoins just as log the seller would be willing to accept bitcoin as payment so there is really nothing new about the car thing. Even the wierdest stuff can already be bough so basic comodities so as well.

Hate it to break it for you but his not the first one to do so, if I'm not wrong earlier this year there was a guy who was selling his mustang for Bitcoin (Not sure if successful though) and also a Chinese guy did manage to sell his tesla car for Bitcoin (although it happened entirely on a Chinese forum) but it got sorted out IIRC. And lastly a long time ago, someone managed to trade a house or buy a house using completely Bitcoin so its not new but its rare.

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER. Please do your own research & respect what is written here as both opinion & information gleaned from experience. many people replying with insults but no on-topic content substance, automatically are 'facepalmed' and yawned at

I read sometime back a guy remortgaged his house to purchase Bitcoin before the $1k boom and profited heavily from it. Not sure how credible it was though. So a car is really nothing.

That is not directly buying something with bitcoin though, fiat was still in the middel there. If you could buy a house directly with bitcoin, without a payment processor coming in between, than we are making steps.

I thought I remember hearing a while back that it might be possible to purchase a Tesla directly with Bitcoin, but not sure if that was just a BS story.
No no this was real. When you google it you will find several articles about that. But not the company Tesla was/is accepting Bitcoin. It was car dealer in Newport Beach who agreed to get paid in Bitcoin. Tesla accepting Bitcoin would be awesome! money.cnn.com/2013/12/06/autos/tesla-bitcoin/http://mashable.com/2013/12/09/tesla-bitcoin/#lKYMO5u7cmqoProving once again that Bitcoin is not just for illicit purchases (you can go to space with it too!), a man bought a Tesla Model S car with bitcoins. The purchase is reportedly the first Tesla, and possibly the first car ever, to be bought with the online currency.
Lamborghini Newport Beach in Southern California sold the car, the dealership announced on its blog last Wednesday, but the buyer is currently unknown.

This would be great, because buying a house is big money, and this is where the BTC shines, because of its low transaction fee.

In my country we are still very fare from it, but hopefully this will change when we will have more bitcoin users. More users creates more demands and merchants are more willing to add bitcoin as another payment option. I hope that soon we will be able to pay everything with bitcoin debit card, as we can now with regular credit cards.
