Another move to ban child marriages in Pakistan has fallen at the first hurdle. The bill to prohibit underage marriages has been withdrawn after the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) declared it un-Islamic.

The ruling party lawmaker, who moved the bill, withdrew her proposal on Thursday following staunch resistance from the council, which advises the legislature whether or not a certain law is Sharia-compliant.

In Pakistan, young boys are abused more often than young girls. In this part of the world, anyone without a beard is considered as a female, be it a 5-year old boy, a camel, or a buffalo. It is very common in Pakistan for the rich Muslims to have male sex slaves, who are often in their pre-teens or early teens. The situation is same in the eastern parts of Afghanistan as well.

Marrying a 15-year old is not the same as marrying a 5-year old. In the 19th century United States, a lot of marriages occurred when both the bride and the groom were 15-years or 16-years old. On the other hand, in Pakistan the norm is that the bride will be 5 or 6 years old, and the groom might be in his 60s or 70s. The age difference is huge.

A man who is a master and owner of property and slaves, might fall in love with a slave woman and create a female child by her. Because marrying the slave woman might endanger his estate, and both of their lives, neither the woman nor the master would want to get married. So, to protect the female child that is his daughter secretly, but is a slave by birth outside of marriage, the master marries her... but would never even think of having sex with her.

Its common situation there child marriages..girls about 8 or 9 married to much old man. Even if there is a law against that, maybe will be done something in Islamabad, in rural areas nothing will change...In some other countries where child marriage is forbidden they simple do this without registration and imam do the ritual..so nothing strange.
