I have been watching the solo.ckpool.org for awhile now, and have been thinking of hooking up my old s1's to give the 'lottery' a go. I was wondering how many users here have found a block at that pool specifically, and what type of hardware they were using.... aswell as how many miners made up the 'farm'?

I would agree I think rentals are most likely the most common on solo.ckpool . There are some that get lucky with running machines, but it's hard as most don't run enough power to really have a good chance. With rentals you have the ability to get much larger amount of hash then you normally would mine with pretty easily. There are also groups that go together and split the cost trying to hit it. Then they have the ability to rent more as it's multiple people sharing cost.

well back then was easy, gpu were still powerful enough to find a block by themselves, finding one now with the correct power is more satisfying with renting and some luck it's should be possible

Didn't noticed the drop but it was only a 8G drop which means difficullty is still 158,427,203,767.39. Still the difficulty is hard to hit but if it continues on dropping then it would be muuch more easier to hit a block. Talking about your mining power, you have S3+ with I guess around 910ghs hash power so I think there might be a chance to hit a block in a month.well you can try it or you can give kano.is a try if you don't want to go solo mining.

There is always a chance of finding a block no matter how low your hashrate is and no matter how high the diff is. It's just that that chance gets smaller and smaller. You can calculate your chances here: http://tradebtc.net/bitcalc.phpFor example, 350GH has a 1 in 22,500 chance per day of finding a block at current difficulty.

Both overclock I have a total of 1.04 TH, I having fun whit the S3+:)
The way I see it, playing the Lottery here in Canada cost 6$ a week to get 55 Million, your chance of winning is ... almost none You have netter chance of being strike by lighting. Play lottery with the S3+ I have more chance right now to hit 25BTC that will give me about $13.000 CAD and when the Reward will drop to 12.5BTC this July I still make $7.000 CAD.
FYI I have calculated the cost of electricity to run those 2 S3+ for a week and it will cost me 5$ and I have more chance (luck) to hit a block in a year (maybe)

Thanks so much for the link and info -ck. surprisingly not bad odds for an s3's approx power. 1/22.5k is actually far higher odds then i thought, I was thinking more like real lottery lol ... like 1/1Million or Billion.

If it were impossible, then no one would be doing it... I even have a few 300MH miners on solo pool since they use so little power people just set them up and forget about them for months.

Of course the catch with renting hash rate is that the 'expected' result is a loss. i.e. you expect, on average, to pay more BTC per block than the BTC you get from a block.
What you will get in reward may be nothing or may be many times more than you pay. However, the more often you do it, the closer to the 'expected' result you will get.

The only exceptions seem to be coin profit switching or pool hopping (with a custom stratum proxy that seamlessly switches pools). There are some algos where these methods can yield a bigger margin even after accounting for the rental 'premium' and a 1% pool fee. If rental isn't available at good prices, you can always try to go ask individual mining farms to rent a bunch of hashrate for a fixed monthly price. Maybe they'll be happy with a 1-2% premium.

Pool hopping makes no difference unless the pool is run by an idiot and using Prop payout. None of the well known pools are stupid enough to do that.
This area is about BTC, so whatever scams you 'think' you can do with scamcoins is off topic.

It's well known now that a block was found recently by a member of this forum in solo.ckpool with a Compac F: Of course the chances of getting a block get better the faster you hash, but it can be anyone really, even a tiny USB miner. I like the concept of solo mining, it's more than just the money.
