so many times now, but i have noticed the reaction to it being dead is getting less and less severe.....

Don't be annoyed. There is much more to see in the future. It will be always various "specialist" or "competent" people which will hear about bitcoin today, will read some things tomorrow and will be convinced that are able to predict its future the next day. The 'community' (chinese miners) so far reached consensus of not accepting any blocksize changes, at all. And that is the consensus we will see in 2016.
Chinese community doesn't care about bitcoin longevity or its purpose to compete with FIAT, they care about their earnings today and tomorrow.
