If you want to use web exchange, use it only to buy the bitcoins (don't use the exchange to store them), when you have your bitcoins take out to another wallet, a cold wallet if its possible, or a software wallet on a clean pc is good (don't use online wallets).

Generally any exchange is safe there is big cimentary of that exchanges
golden rule is do not keep your funds on exchange
