I am trying to get 2 Noctua NF-F12 Industrial PPC-3000 fans working on my Antminer S5. Plugging them into the PWM connectors does not work. They spin a few times and then quit. The S5 is Powered by a Corsair 750 Gold series PSU. Any help is appreciated.

Just put your S5 fans in series and they will run just as good as those Noctua's by spinning slower.

The stock S5 fans work at 6V

They most certainly work. I probably know what is going on...you might have put connectors in reverse orientation.
There is a bump on one side of the connector that is preventing putting it in the correct orientation.
Clip it (the bump) off with a nail clipper or something similar to flatten the area, then it will fit in correct orientation just fine.
these ones (just to make sure)?
http://www.amazon.com/Focused-NF-F12-iPPC-3000-PWM/dp/B00KFCRATC

Personally, I preferred Noctua in intake position and Scythe Ultra Kaze (powered by PSU through included adapter) in exhaust position.
This combo costs less, is more secure regarding internet loss "bug" and gives similar db level in comparison with 2 Noctuas.

This is the correct advice cut that little tab off. I also use a quality nail clipper to get the tab off.

I also like silverstone 141 fan. I prefer the scythe ultra kaze with the silverstone

The noctua is expensive and does not quite move the air as well.

Thanks for all the replies! Great forums. No judging, just good info. No matter what orientation I plug the fans in (and yes, those in the link above are what I have) they will just "bump" the fan around once or twice then quit. I have waited for a few minutes to no avail. Guess I have some bad fans...

Sorry for hijacking the thread but.. has anyone tried replacing the fans on the S7 yet?
Anything out there that can supply enough static pressure and at the same time be more silent than the originals?

Cheers.

Here's a link to way more than you ever wanted to know about fans:
http://www.overclock.net/t/1321074/tator-tots-big-quiet-120mm-140mm-fan-round-up
The short answer is I haven't found any fans that move as much air as the stock antminer's without being loud as h&ll!

If you want to change the factory fan, put the older firmware (Wed Jan 7) without "customize fan speed settings" and then noctua fans spin OK!

Ok I tried that the Noctua fan spins erratically backwards and forwards. Never at 3000rmp.

Might want to try the Ultra Kaze fans and just spin them down. Also stock fans at minimum RPM, 2400-2600 are not too bad, especially with a cheap acoustic panel absorbing the noise.

I haven't tried the Ultra Kaze fan but apparently they still move lots of air and the noise is much less annoying than the generic fans the S5 come with.

I have the Noctua 3000 on my S5 no problem as well as the Silverstone 141's.  Both will not work with the S7's though.  The Noctua's don't spin up until the S7 starts mining and then the S7 shows it only runs at 2,600 rpm, not enough to keep it cool even at 600.  Same with the Silverstones (which claim a larger volume than the Noctua, but I don't think so).  The Scythe's are 3 pin, so I don't think they will work with the S7's.

I was going to say, get a pin into the plug holes where you can just see the metal contacts, that would push a locking pin in, remove the blue and yellow wires (i assume it has them) and try to run the fans on only the black and red.

to lock the wires back in, you'll have to use the pin to push the little locking tab back out, you should hear a light audible click once you push the wire back into the plug.

If the old fans have the same colour wires, try and rewire the plug the same as the original fan..
I'd picture up, but I'm at work ATM..

plug in a 4 pin pwm fan to the controller and lay it on top of the miner.
