Hi,

I am a novice in the business of mining.
I tried to connect 2 good 3 pin fans to the miner, but it fails to operate.
I get beeps!

If I connect the fans to the miner or the a molex, its the same thing. It start, but stops within a minute.
Temperature remains below 50°C!

What am I doing wrong?

regards,
Eric

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

Do you see a Rpm listed in the Gui? If it doesn't detect a fan speed it will not hash. Also not all fans send the correct rpm signal.

Yes i see the rpm in the miner status site.
I also see that the machine starts to mine, but it stops after a minute and i get beep-sounds.

I saw an youtube a s5 without use of the fanconnectors of the S5-board.  They where connected to the power suply.

Eric

the demo was on older firmware.  you need to go back and use   1 stock fan and 1 new 3 pin fan.

that should work.

Make sure the Fan is plugged in Fan1 too! Just something to keep in mind or the safeguard will kick in.

I don't want to use the stock fans. They are to noisy!
I bought 2 new PRO, high CFM 3 pin fans and like to use these.

Well the stock fans arent really that noisy at 2400RPM. And the corsairs performance edition i have dont push enough air. But regardless, i meant the RPM reading need to be on Fan1. If its on Fan2 the miner will do what its doing right now because the safeguard will kick in since it will read 0 rpm on Fan1, it doesnt check Fan2.

I bet it's going into thermal lock down. What is the Cfm of the fans your trying to use. I run my s5's at 25% fan in my kitchen and they are at 60c and quiet like a s3

I put in a pair of noctua NF-F12 iPPC 3000 PWM fans in a push-pull configuration and they worked fine.  Much quieter than the stock fan, even with two running instead of the single original.

I don't believe in superstition because it's bad luck: 13thF1oor6CAwyzyxXPNnRvu3nhhYeqZdc

Not sure, but I'll be experimenting with the S7 and some fans this weekend so if there's any improvement I'll post it.

I am currently running UC'd at 625 and set the stock fans at 30% so it's at least bearable sitting in the guest room for now... Cheesy

Damn, got me again.  This weekend, REALLY, I'll get to it and post back...  Roll Eyes

Edit-ok finally done.  I put a Sanyo Denki SAN Ace 120 3.0 Amp 12 Volt 120mm PWM in push, and a Scythe DFS123812H-3000 Ultra Kaze in pull.  Sounds SO much better!  Is it quiet? Not by a long shot, but it is much less noticable, and is both ears and wife approved!

Yeah the four pin Sanyo ace is a good fan.

I grabbed a 20 pack of them on Amazon for about 100 usd

I gave away most of them as avalon6 substitute fans

Well, I did the same thing, put two 100+CFM fans on my S5 (push-pull) and the temp just ramped up to 60+, the fans could only get upto 1200RPM which was the noted max on the specs of the fans. So what I'm thinking is, as the temp rises quickly, the system is trying to push the fans to a faster speed, but the fans themselves cannot do it, the thermal protection on the system tries and fails to push the fan faster, it shuts it down for safety.

so I'm guessing that's what OPs original issue was?

Yeah, 1200rpm fans don't have near enough oomph, or more precisely static pressure, to keep an s5 cool, I tried that too.  The best I was able to do with my 5 was a pair of noctua 3000rpm PWM fans in push-pull.  Setting the fans @ 80% kept the noise to a minimum (relatively speaking) and the boards at <= 60C.
