I know i have voted before but the bitcoin users are increasing even kids now a days are talking about it, thanks to steam it open up a new opportunity and bring up awareness to youth about bitcoin. well mostly gamers.

Well for sure steam is going to make a lot of bitcoin users and they are already promoting bitcoins with their platform. And if these gamers are going to see that using bitcoin is much more convenient to use rather than other payment method for sure it is going to help the population of users to add in using bitcoin. I believe that maybe 2%-5% of people in the world are going to know bitcoin by 2020.
it's sounds like a pessimistic argument with low expected percentage.
let's say then in 2020 or 5 years ahead bitcoin active users will reached 10% .
it means there must be a 700 million to 800 million active user out of 7.4 billion total number of humans in the world.
sounds like impossible? no at all , i am pretty sure it will reached soon.
just keep spreading the love , spirit and power of bitcoin!

Anybody want to do the math with me?

There are 10.5 million bitcoin addresses in existence and 5.7 million with balances equal to $1 or greater, according to this site: https://bitinfocharts.com/top-100-richest-bitcoin-addresses.html.

Let's be generous and assume that of the 5.7m addresses that a different person owns each address. We know that's not true so this will be a very generous estimate.

5.7 million people with a bitcoin address (therefore using bitcoin) out of 7.4 billion people in the world. That results in ~0.0007% of the worlds population using bitcoin!

So the scale of this poll isn't very realistic, but it's still fun to talk about.

Let's lower our population to just those that have access to the internet, because without the internet you can't really get your hands on any coin. (You even need the internet to buy one of Mike Caldwell's Casascius coins!)

There are 3.2 billion people with access to the internet.  http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=How+many+people+have+access+to+the+internet%3F

5.7m people with a bitcoin address out of 3.2b people ups our digital currency savvy share of the population to ~0.0017%!

Crazy small percentages. But that's ok. It means there's a lot of upside! We all just need to keep spreading the word.

Thanks for this simple math, not simple either but this is much more realistic than the other statistics that are coming out.

So the total of the users of bitcoin as of today are not even reaching 1% of the world's population, I'm not surprised either.

But if we are going to think about it since 2009, good thing that there are already 0.0017% of world's population in total who uses bitcoin.

That is really fast if we are going to think and technology is been very fast when it comes to adoption and innovation so for sure in 2020 this percentage is going to increase.

The bitcoin is getting popular day after day or year after year. This can be proved by the daily transaction volumes.

^^True, but it will never get bigger as the dollar$ or any foreign currency, Simple because it is hard to get, personally i don't see that the bitcoin will be used by an extreme amount of people in the future.

I think that percentage will be 2-5 and I am sure that there won't be many percent of people and I'll say why I think this opinion. Well, if you look there are many poor countries, for example india. They already cotain 18% of people of Earth, it's very poor country where people only think about to eat something to live, I can say the same about Africa where life is very bad. We all know that this isn't complete list and there are much, very much poor country and while people from this countrys are only trying to find food to live and don't die and they don't know it technologies and etc, they won get interested to know about bitcoin and even use it.

If you disagree my opinion, than I am ready to hear your answer about my post.

I voted for 30-40%. Bitcoin is becoming familiar to more people day by day. A time would come when no one could stay away from the  mainstream of Bitcoins.Bitcoins should be made familiar to people through  social websites.

I think bitcoin is being used in 2020 for sure by huge volume of people. I wish to vote 70-80 percent of people will know about that and they will use. As you said we need to spread the bitcoin is social networks like Facebook, Twitter and whatsapp.

Good math but just saying access to the internet is probably not realistic either.    That would include people who use it for email only.   Theres alot of people who arent buying anything  on the net and are just not that rich.

I think if you find the figure for people who earn more then 200 dollars a week and take a percentage of that as your target audience for those who might require bitcoin as a useful medium of exchange for global products they are buying.   Bitcoin can be used locally but I think most often like email itself the exchange is most useful over great distances

Perhaps in 2020 the percentage of people using bitcoin range between 50-60. It's a good increase in bitcoin and will continue to grow. Because right now I think that using bitcoin is no 30% of the world population.

Not sure but I believe that it is going to be a low percentage because not everyone in the world makes use of Bitcoin.
They need to attract more people if they want to become something bigger in the future.

yepp that is the problem to make bitcoin as common thing ,
having an access to internet doesn't mean people do business online (make a transaction) ,
but we can encourage to make their business online and then introduce bitcoin as payment processor ,
bitcoin are still complicated to a common people , make the development growing so slow.

5.7 million people with a bitcoin address (therefore using bitcoin) out of 7.4 billion people in the world. That results in ~0.0007% of the worlds population using bitcoin!
Wrong math, remove two zeroes: 0.07%. And already blockchain is slow because of the large transaction volume.
100 times more users can almost be magic for Bitcoin's value.

So that is below 1%, we are that small therefore we should be realistic from now on and do the right projection to affect our investment, the growing number of adopters is the bright side of bitcoin that it might be big in the future.

Maybe the users of bitcoin community does not possess 10% of world population but this is for sure that they are more than 1 million by now, because we can see that the users database of bitcoin is increasing drastically and if you see the users of this forum they are around 800k or above so not all the users of bitcoin are using this forum, they can be more than 1 million if accumulated.

Now at the moment only few people know about this coin. Let's assume 1% of total population people. And it's increasing very slowly, only increases .5% more in 2020 hardly.

Not to mention that not all that start using bitcoin are going to continue and not to mention also that some of those who start using bitcoin are investing in it...So by 2020 I think we will not see much difference in user...Except if it is already easy to use bitcoin locally without using exchanges...  Smiley
yeah, most probably i dont think there will be a big increase in bitcoin users, but i think the price will still grow

Actually it's depend on the bitcoin's user. If the bitcoin's user want motivate other people to use bitcoin, many people will own bitcoin by 2020. If not, only few peoples that know about bitcoins.
