Where is the up to date thread about instawallet, which appears to still be down as of 4/3/13 ...72 hours + We need immediate newsmongering when these hosted wallets go down. Where's the thread?

Thanks, yeah I only had like ten USD worth there, but I am sure others will have been robbed outright if what you say is true... Do you have any details or links? I will post what I can find. This must be one of the most important threads to follow as to: 1: Amounts people lost 2: Litigators salivating and looking for info 3: What REALLY happened. ...Example: Mafia dude sells out his own poker game, to collect the pot afterward, stands there with his hands up during the "heist".

Found this thread: instawallet has fallen new owner stealing March 08, 2013, 09:48:17 PM https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=150724.0 and this thread You are a *fucking dumbass* if you use Instawallets, PERIOD. April 02, 2013, 11:36:59 AM https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=164772.0and this seems to be the main thread, page 14 says Instawallet is talking about partial refunds if you had more than 50 BTC which means they had funds stolen. Re: Instawallet/Bitcoin-Central Security Breach https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=164143.220They should come forth and make it happen publicly: who fucked them Waiting days for news on this shit is completely retarded, the miner should be tracking this down like bloodhounds all their efforts are wasted if they allow thieving shits to do this. YES you are stupid if you trust people, but human relationships are based on TRUST. NO OTHER NEWBIE THREAD MATTERS, PUMP THIS ONE FULL OF INFO, NOOBS HOW MUCH HAVE YOU LOST TO THIEVES?

What does "up" mean? Does that mean "showing the we are down HTML page" or does it mean "actually working?"

What does "up" mean? Does that mean "showing the we are down HTML page" or does it mean "actually working?" This thread I bounced here is a relic now, from the days of yore. The days before Instawallet got hacked. In the years afterward, people became less trusting of web based wallets where they OBVIOUSLY know your private key, because their own web server has to serve it to you. So, Kazu, did you use Instawallet? And do you have a lawyer who is advising you to sue them, since they are only dealing with 50+ coin wallets on a case by case basis? And to answer your question, yes, a website can be up or down, for each user. This pertains to many variables like web connection, Internet outages, etc. But Instawallet is not only down, its in flames, apparently. Keep this thread alive, look at all the numbnuts on these forums giving people bad advice! More security and less litigation in the post-theft anaylsis will be best, if bitcoin is not to be destroyed.

So, Kazu, did you use Instawallet? And do you have a lawyer who is advising you to sue them, since they are only dealing with 50+ coin wallets on a case by case basis? If I needed to sue them, then I'd be screwed. I had a grand total of maybe $2 worth of BTC in there. My 'fortune' is safely on my own PC And to answer your question, yes, a website can be up or down, for each user. This pertains to many variables like web connection, Internet outages, etc. But Instawallet is not only down, its in flames, apparently.
I surely hope not. Instawallet dying could severely hurt bitcoins. I know that a website can be up or down for each individual user, I never asked that question. Keep this thread alive, look at all the numbnuts on these forums giving people bad advice!

No, how about lets not. Lets just hope that this one blows over without a shitfit occurring, and not let the government get involved with the BTC rally going on right now.

As of now instawallet is officially down. seems they got hacked or compromised. here is what the site displays:
INSTAWALLET SERVICE NOTICE
The Instawallet service is suspended indefinitely until we are able to develop an alternative architecture.
Our database was fraudulently accessed, due to the very nature of Instawallet it is impossible to reopen the service as-is.
In the next few days we are going to open the claim process for Instawallet balance holders to claim the funds they had stored before the service interruption.
Important information on claims submission:
1 For the first 90 days we will accept claims for individual Instawallets. Your wallet's URL and key will be used to pre-populate a form to file the claim.
2 After 90 days, if no other claim has been received for the same url, your Instawallet balance under 50 BTC will be refunded. If several claims have been filed for the same url, we will process those claims on a case by case basis, under the presumption that the claim we received first belongs to the legitimate balance holder.
3 Claims for wallets that hold a balance greater than 50 BTC will be processed on a case by case and best efforts basis.

Of course you should. Or you could just give the credentials to someone who does care about it (ie. me). Otherwise you will let these people get your money for free, which would be a shame when they've done such a disservice to the whole community.

What is dodgy about Instawallet dying (I had nothing in there) is that they get hacked, and they say "We are done but we have a Byzantine Refund policy for you to follow" with little or no details of the hack that brought them down or how a hack that could bring them down so permanently. Of course the refunds will be given in bitcoin. But I wonder how long it will take for those with less than 50 BTC in an instawallet? We know it will take longer for more than 50 BTC. Researching Paymium, the company that owns Instawallet, shows they also own Paytunia, which supports transactions in Europs over the bitcoin network and also offers a wallet service, they too are down but trying to get back up, and it should be noted that they are trying to get back up because they deal in Eur, GBP and USD as well as BTC, so I think there is some banking regulation that requires them to not shut down and to make conditions for past trades. https://paytunia.com/

It seems the requesting form will be available in few days. From the form should be clear if amouts under 0.01 can be requested
