Hey people,

I was wondering, would you be interested in a bitcointalk.org lottery?

I didn't saw any and I'd like to organize one.
It could be a rather easy daily thread. Every day you can come and buy any amount of tickets you want at 0.01 btc then we could draw a number. Or maybe do it on a larger scale to have bigger prizes!

I'm totally willing to organize this  and I could send enough funds to a trusted escrow so you can be sure I'm not going to run away with the coins xD
Like if I escrow 1 btc it means I could sell until 1 btc worth of tickets without you to be worried of me running away!

The only problem I got is that I could still play with an alt and then make enough dran on random.org to make me win, so does anyone have an idea on how I could draw a random number and prove every one it was a true random unique draw and not my 56th try to draw my number? ^^

If anyone is interested don't hesitate to answer in the thread or pm me Smiley

It would be fun , and how about limit the participant to 10 max only with 0.01 ticket .
So the winner will won 0.1 , what do you think?

The idea of a lottery is that you can buy as many tickets as you want. The thing is that if you don't hit with 90% of tickets in your possession you just lost 90% to win 10%..

Basically it is than just like rolling dice with a specific bet at specific odds.

Personally I wouldn't play a bitcointalk lottery, I'd just buy a ticket for a national lottery if I want to try my luck like that.

You wouldn't play a little lottery here? Any reason why? Even a little ticket for the fun?

There has already been lot of failed lottery attempts in the section.Glad you're willing to escrow the amount. If random number generation is not an answer then you could use other services which encrypts the number. The only disadvantage here is,we would never know if you're participating in the lottery as your alt knowing the number.I think instead of selecting the winner on number basis something more random should be taken into consideration .

Well that's the point.

If I escrow the amount I can't simply run away with the money.
If I twich the draw at random.org, I can't just make the draw for myself or one of my alts!

It is too much of a hassle in my opinion for too little reward.

You have the chance to get scammed or have the drawing manipulated for one.

The people that feed the lottery monster are the ones that can least afford it. You can ask people to fill in a survey, hold a focus group or get letters of support from key local groups. There are some people though who might love your idea but who these methods just won’t reach. It certainly is a challenge to get other members of your community on board.

I think a few people in the past actually tried something similar with little or no success. Its pretty much pointless so you can simply go to any dice site and bet 1 BTC on 1% odd of winning, and also it much quicker and much more secure.

This. Also, there is already a bitcoin lottery site, pvpot.com. I don't think that this idea will receive much success unless you think of something very innovative/funny.

The idea is very interesting and quite good. I really like this, but I am still very hesitant towards how to determine the winners in the lottery, because if you rely solely on a website such as the number of the random.org weapon, it indicates that the game is very less attractive and less professional. So if you want to make the game interesting and professionally make a very good method of weapon and can be seen Live, while you do the randomization.

And verifiable, I personally wouldn't be interested in it but OP you can give it a shot if you like but your concerns are right, you need a way to make it completely UN-cheat able.

Those who are lucky in raffle draws or lottery could join if you can convince them that they can trust you. For me, I have never won a single ticket in my whole life so I am not going to try this one now. I am much luckier doing dice or plinko.

As I say nearly every time something like this gets brought up it won't work.
Why play a lottery when you can get the exact same provably fair odds on a dice site but instantly.
Sure, fun community thing I guess but when these things do get off the ground they are short lived. Hell I even did one myself once .015~ I think. It's just not worth anyone's time anymore.
