I think so. It would certainly make it easier to watch topics of interest related to alternative clients. There does not appear to be a consensus on when an alternative client deserves its own child forum, but that can probably be worked out incrementally.

I could see MultiBit and Electrum deserving their own at least, since they seem to be the biggest alternative clients. Making subforums for them (with the official topics stickied in there) would help speed up the tech support process too, IMO.

I think that the root Development & Technical Discussion should be for general protocol discussions. We should have a sub-forum for Bitcoin-QT, BitcoinJ, cBitcoin, etc... As well as Electrum, MultiBit, etc...

One off NP-Hard.

MultiBit, Electrum, Armory, Android Bitcoin Wallet (the schildbach wallet) would make sense.
Is there a limit to the nesting? Having an alternative clients category as a catchall for everything else makes sense to me.

Would it make sense to have an 'Alternative Clients' forum under the main 'Bitcoin' forum, with sub-categories for individual clients as deemed necessary? I only raise this as the topic threads for alternative clients might not necessarily be development and technical discussions. In other words, I'm advocating promoting the existing 'Alternative Clients' category out from under where it is and making it a top-level category, then adding children for individual clients that merit it.

I think Dev&Tech == generic technical discussion, then sub-forums for discussion of development of the popular clients makes sense (including 'Reference Client (Bitcoin-Qt/bitcoind)' ). And a catch-all for any not-yet-popular (or used-to-be-popular) clients.

Could I make a recommendation that each forum have a sticky or tag that indicates it is a "Full-Chain [FC] client" or "Header-Only [HO] client" or "Server-Trusting [ST] client" if this is done? I don't know if they need specific forums for types of clients, but it might be handy for explaining the differences to newbies if a sticky links to the page that explains the different types of clients.

I think I'll keep it like
Dev & Tech Alt clients Electrum ...
Because Bitcoin-Qt in some ways is the protocol currently. If Bitcoin-Qt was split from Dev & Tech, I think that too many important protocol-related topics would end up in Bitcoin-Qt.
Since other client lists are usually in alphabetical order, I'll do it in reverse alphabetical order to mix things up...

Android Bitcoin Wallet (the schildbach wallet)
I don't see many topics specifically about this client.

I see the change has already been implemented. Very nice, very organized.

I would like to request a section for Blockchain.info. It would be good to have separate threads regarding the Android, iPhone and Web clients rather than being stuck in one monolithic thread.

I don't think "are there many threads" is a great metric to use because the old system was to put all posts related to a client into one thread. There's only one thread for MultiBit too ...

Thanks for the change. I feel less cramped already !
:-)
edit: I have put in a link to the thin client security model in the 'Welcome' post for newbies. If a mod could make that post sticky I would appreciate it. (I don't seem to be able to).

I would like to request a "Bitcoin Wallet" subforum. It's got 27.000 installs and grows about a hundred daily. This is just the numbers from the Google market, add to that several thousands that install via direct download or alternative markets like F-Droid. It's built on free and open source.

@Andreas/ Goonie
Would it be clearer to have a subforum "Android Bitcoin Wallet" rather than "Bitcoin Wallet" as it is more specific ?
