Curious about people's opinion with BTER.

They apparently got hacked some time back and since then have not quite got back up, currently number 33

I respect their response to being hacked, they are making an effort to repay everyone, which is different from most places that just close and disappear without trying to make things right.

On the other hand should a person not trust them because there may be a financial threat to them (e.g. solvency issues)  that threatens any money a person sends there?

I've used them quite a few times pre and post hack. I never had any trouble either time. This was all for piffling amounts though and there's absolutely no way I'd be entrusting them with large sums. By the sounds of it their support's pretty bad and the effort to pay people back is super slow. That's not surprising as they must be earning very little these days.

i used to use them before the hack but fortunately i did not have much investment in their website, but after the hack i left them because i can't trust them anymore.

whenever there is such big hack, to me, it means they are either lying which means they are scammers or it means they are incompetent and can not protect their assets.

the trade volume on bter is not good enough to get my attention and i also prefer some exchanger that has not been hacked before.

The thing that occurs to me though is that with most exchanges that get hacked the people running things just shut down the exchange and disappear.

We know though, from actual history, that the folks running BTER will not do that. They were hacked and their company was briefly crippled and they decided to pay off the victims from their own future profits, rather than cutting and running.

What weight does  that carry?

Yes it works.  But there are a number of coins listed that you can not withdraw, okay that happens, but there is no way to get that info unless you test deposit/withdraws.

Found this. That seemed to have been an issue after the hack. Not sure if it still is and would be nice to get someone from there to address it.

bter ultimate broke and scam ?

It looks to me like after they got hacked they tried to limit withdrawals of certain coins and that started a run.

Now they are trying to get back up again.

They are the unique exchange for some high quality older coins and will probably recover.
