what are the downsides to blockchain.info? I want to get into a wallet, how safe exactly is it?

It's safe enough as long as you stay safe, blockchain.info wallet works only when the site is up so when the site is down you can't use their wallet service, the bad side is that you can't sign bitcoin message from their website (the beta version), it is one of the most popular online wallets.

because right now you can use prune mode to make it very light like spv client, so i see them a bit obsolete, not armory, that is another good version, that allow additional thign that core can not do

also core di per se offer a good security already

Ok, blockchain might the convenient wallet but what's going to happen if the owner of an account forget his or her password?

what are the downsides to blockchain.info? I want to get into a wallet, how safe exactly is it?

If you lose your password for the legacy blockchain.info they don’t know what your password is and have no way of recovering it or resetting it -  https://support.blockchain.com/hc/en-us/articles/207743863-I-lost-my-password-can-Blockchain-Support-recover-or-reset-it-

In the new BETA blockchain.info you have a password hint that you set yourself plus a Recovery Phrase

Yes, blockchain I one of the most used and popular wallet but the down side of blockchain is that loosing your password is as loosing your account or bitcoin. Though, they do let people know this and I like that about them.

That may apply to the legacy wallet but not to the new BETA wallet providing you apply the security options i.e. password hint & recovery phrase - https://support.blockchain.com/hc/en-us/articles/207744753-Level-1-Verify-your-email-backup-your-security-phrase-and-create-a-password-hint

Plus everyone will have to upgrade to the new BETA eventually anyway.

I have been using Multibit and blockchain since I want to do bigger transactions in Blockchain and smaller ones in Multibit, but these days I am more into multibit as I don't have much BTC in order to transact a lot...
But still, multibit is the best, as offline wallets and paper wallets are always the best...

Truly multibit helps to have ease of access to several bitcoin addresses which looks to be a better feature. I always prefer Blockchain for its faster transaction as well easily understanding user interface.

Like everybody else in this thread: Multibit. It is a practical wallet and you don't have buy an extra hd to sync up the 'classic' qt wallet.

been using coinbase and xapo for a long time , but after seeing all your reply i think it is not safe to use web wallets as they are the controller of the wallet , but i think coinbase support and security is very high and good..

Yes, that's so true and bitcoin core is not hard wallet. Besides, you can also have a quite of addresses for a bitcoin core account that's what  make bitcoin core stand out.

Yes, mostly all the web wallet are the controller of user account or bitcoin. In the other hand, xapo and coinbase  are friendly but I will suggest that you also have a wallet which is not hard wallet.

The most convenient are the mobile wallets, because you can use them everywhere easily. Of course they are not the most secure and risk free, too.

You should do your own research and decide what is best for you

Does no-one use BitGo? I downloaded it because their selling point is security. But it seems like its not very widely used - at least on this forum.

Of course it's a desktop wallet so its not that secure in the first place, but anyway.

Exactly different wallets have different features and you should choose according to your convenience I am using multibit at a moment but when I need to convert it to fiat I transfer it to localbitcoins.

when i was planning on choosing a wallet for myself i tested Multibit but i didn't feel comfortable with it and especially when i read that i have to pay a fee to developers in order to use it i disliked it even more.
now i use Electrum and i am happy with it because i can easily work with in offline then sign and transfer it online.

I will go with blockchain.info as I feel that it takes less time for confirmation in transaction which takes usually a very long time in other wallets.

Honestly i already use the blockchain and even you are paying high fee the transaction is slow.. and i think it depends in miners if it will confirm it fast or not..  i use coinbase because theres no fee for every transaction..
