This app is an amazing idea... I don't have a clue on how a system like this doesn't simply come bundled with services like Friends from Apple and Android Device Manager. I guess this app fills in the blank spot. Downloading it now, definitely going to give it a try.

As for the funding, if it was in fact OP that gave them the coins, thank you, this is much needed and quite appreciated by the community and devs. And of course the founder was open to investment with crypto... He's pictured on the website with a Bitcoin t-shirt Tongue

Sounds like an intersting app, however i am not sure i would use it.  it might be usefull for an elderly person or someone who is home bound.  that is a serious investment......

This has got to be one of the stupidest ideas I have heard of this week.

If true, you just blew 300 BTC.

Police in certain areas come with a double edged sword, one minute they are there to help, the next minute they are busting you for some infraction they came across well helping you out. The law is usually the heavy for the government and once you cross the line you will feel the full force of that power. Having another option is a great way to reign in corrupt establishments.
Great idea, one hell of a investment though!

WOW that's a lot of bitcoin you had to invest. Did you buy shares in the company or is it just a private investment? I do hope you have great success in the app and hope you have a good marketing team behind it. I would love to blog about it on my coin blog for a small bag of satoshi Smiley  Smiley. Would be good to get the word out. I love new innovations in technology and wish I was much younger to enjoy the rapid pace of development.

Thanks Smiley I bought myself in ofcourse.

My portfolio was 80% crypto so I'm happy to diversify some into this promising startup.

Wow dude thats freaking insane. How did you get all that money to begin with?
In any case, about the app, I think this is the type of stuff that ends up getting regulated by governments. There is a risk that they don't like people "playing policemen" so to speak, this is why the software should be decentralized and anonymous.
Just like Uber has all those regulation problems because they are competence against taxi, we may see some problems with this. Overall sounds good tho.

I inherited money at young age. I focused on investing it well, did some good moves, some bad moves. My returns averaged 5% per year, but that is the same as the inflation rate, so my purchasing power did not go up since I started investing my inheritance 10 years ago, but I was able to live from it while not seeing my purchasing power go down, which is already a great achievement for an investor Smiley

Very good point about the app. I thought there was a high chance that bitcoin would be outlawed when I started investing in it at the end of 2012 around $10. But instead they allowed it to happen. Ofcourse bitcoin was decentralized from the start, which is likely the reason why no government agency started clamping down on it, as they did before with anyone setting up a competing currency.

I think an app like Cell 411 however has much lower chance to be clamped down on. To my knowledge, sometimes such apps or devices becomes 'illegal' to use, like cop alerting devices for in cars, but they never shut down the company producing it, right?

Uber I think is a good example that very disruptive technologies that are even 'verboten' in certain states, don't need to be build as a decentralized app for them to become successful.

Thanks Smiley Very true. People think police is there to help but police is first and foremost there to 'keep order'. They work for the local ruler, not for you.

Instead of calling the police 911 you can use the app Cell 411 and be helped by your friends and other users.

The app is growing rapidly. I approached the founder and he was open to receive a financing in crypto.

Very proud:

This is a great invention. lucky you to invest in it. Good luck to you friend.

I think this kind of app is a good idea, but I understand the concerns of others in this thread; the network can only be as good as the participants. Where I disagree must is with their wholly negative view of the possibilities; if people with professional standards of medical or personal security register, it has the potential to deliver a far better service than current centralised providers.

Reliable identification of both good and bad actors will be the key to success for this app. If both can be reliably ascertained (at least by, say, other natives of the same country/region), then this model could totally outcompete centralised emergency services on speed, care, and price. If you've got good emergency care skills, and you want Bitcoin, I'm buying.

Thanks for great advise Carlton Cool

Quote
received the investment of 10 Million NXT and 300 BTC, worth $200,000, from crypto- currency investor and entrepreneur Marc De Mesel.

Cool. However I really doubt the survival chances of this type of application. I'd rather call my local police than calling my friends in case of emergency. If I forgot to bring my wallet after eating a dinner, I would be able to call my friends using default cellphone - there is no need for this type of app.

I do wish to see this application success however since it received funding in cryptocurrencies. Smiley.

It's not a good idea to be in contact with cops. The service is generally very poor, and you risk getting into trouble yourself.

If you have to, you have to, but an app like this may become much more useful than what the cops offer you.

I don't think this app will work by just adding your current friends eventhough it is a good way to start by adding some close friends/family that you depend on currently.

But just like Waze for example, that alerts you where cops are on the road, if there is an accident en route, etc, you get helped much more by other user who love the app and want to help and build a strong reputation.

i don't get why would someone choose to call a friend in case of emergency!
emergency services like police, ambulance,... can get there much faster than my friends can. maybe it is good for some country that doesn't have a decent emergency service.

those devs should spend their time and money on something that has practical use.

Funny you are here on a Bitcoin forum if this is your belief, no?

The idea with this App, much like Bitcoin, is decentralization. Less dependency on a monopolized government service, which in many (if not most) places is corrupt beyond belief.

Cops are above the law. Nobody polices the police and that means they literally get away with murder. It happens daily! Pull your head out of your ass and you'd see this. Police are no longer our friends like they might have been 50 years ago. Instead they've become true "law enforcement officers", that essentially enforce whatever bullshit they are commanded to. They go around harassing the public, not serving them. We absolutely need this type of competition in protection services to keep everyone honest.

Most of my friends are drunk or stoned or don't have a driving licence because of the prior reasons. I also don't think they're going to be willing to risk their necks if I'm being raped. I'll stick to the people who are actually trained and paid to deal with it even if that makes me a commie faggot.

WOW! Smiley John Bush interviewed me for his show SovereignBTC on 'Let's Talk Bitcoin', why I invested so much in Cell 411. We also talk about Bitcoin, NXT, and other cryptocurrencies:

I would also trust more institutions that we are already paying to keep us safe, don't really see the point in redundancy in this matter.
if anyone is not satisfied with what they are getting from them, there are ways to change that. But it's all a matter of personal choice in the end.

if i were in a situation that i was in that much trouble i wouldnt want my friends involved (much as they would want to be) i would rather have the professional responders do it. they are paid to take the risk, my friends are not.
