OK, so a quick count reveals 19 threads with the word "halving" in the title (for the purposes of the poll this is the definition of a halving thread) in the first 5 pages of this sub-forum.
Obviously we have to add this one now, so a nice round twenty threads.
Using all your skill and analytical abilities please estimate how many "halving" threads there will be in just this sub-forum before the halving actually arrives. Some factors to consider:
A) the ability of the average BCT user to operate the search function B) the (closely related) ability of the average BCT user to read more than the top 5 any threads before posting a new one C) the extraordinary optimism that the halving will bring a massive price increase, especially if you talk about it a lot
Notes: this is purely for fun and no warranty is given or implied.

Look into the number of threads preceding the 2012 halving. Then tell yourself that it is "priced in". Human psychology doesn't change.

Right now the price is still relatively calm. Imagine what will happen once the price starts to rally. The amount of block halving threads will go through the roof. The more noobs the more of these threads.

Hmm, you are right maybe I should edit the poll and add an "over 500" option?

I will guess there will be at least a halving of 500 so my guess is 250 threads before the halving comes and goes.

Really great to read that I am not the only one with such feelings. I bet we will get more than 100 new topics about halving till the actual halving takes place. Most of them will bring absolutely nothing new, just the 'discussion' who comes with the most absurd valuation of Bitcoin after halving, including $5k and beyond. However, it is part of the bigger phenomena here on this forum. It is not only about halving, which is simply more pronounced. Every time we get a $20 move each way, there are at least five new topics about the price going to the moon or zero, depending on the direction of the move. It looks like Bitcoin's volatility is not that easy to digest.

the closer we get to the halving the more threads we are going to see. and it almost doesn't matter if the price moves or not. if it stays the same they are going to be about when it starts and why it hasn't yet. and if it goes up, there are going to be about how high it is going to be and (like last time) 10K here we come also don't forget about the spam bots calling bitcoin ponzi lol

Weak hands have been complaining about missing out ever since bitcoin was $1 and never buy the dip. Whales are those who keep buying the dip.

I think it will be less than 100 as I believe the old 'block halving' threads will get bumped like there is no tomorrow.

A lot will be popping up with that thread as the halving is near, even on the normal post you can see that they are talking about the halving.

definitely more than 100 threads. but i don't think people with a paid signature will complain about it as it allows them to post more often in fresh threads.

I think the main point of creating more halving threads are mainly for the signature spam, as now that more of them dont have anything to comment on other topics so they will start new halving with some new points adding in the thread but the reply will be the same.

From 19 to 100 it's just a small step, really, given the time frame. A lot of people use Bitcoin, has some, thinks they may get rich, but don't come here often, or at all. And they hear of halving. Will they search? No! They will ask. Over and over again. Of course, some will also try to create smarter or dumber threads, only to try to boost the post count (for sig campaings, for rank, ..). It adds up. Even 500 option may be "small"..

I am going with a small number. It is so much easier to reply to a thread than to start another one. People thinking about the same things will post the the same thread if it is not too far down in the topic list. It is when the threads lose activity people see there is no thread in the immediate view. And yes, I agree with the poster previous to this one. Many people will not search here. They will be repeating arguments rather than trying to find their previously made arguments by someone else and the answers that are still applicable already there.
As we get closer to the date, I predict the people are going to be interested more and more and the threads will end up always on the front page, then the thread count will stop growing because people can just post to the threads that are there.

Even from a non-speculative, non-technical standpoint the halving is good. I know seeing a lot of threads about one topic might frustrate you, but don't you want people talk about Bitcoin? I want people talking about Bitcoin as much as possible and the more they're talking about it the more the might talk about it with people unfamiliar with it.
I really want Bitcoin back in the media with the date of this halving approaching it would be wonderful if r/bitcoin and r/btc could put aside their differences and try to get some stories about the halving to the front page on reddit. From their it would be picked up from other news outlets. Something positive and explaining what the halving is and when it's scheduled to occur, as we get closer. People talk about all the time the price of bitcoin reflects the halving already, it doesn't. If you seize the opportunity to promote something we all love you will find new adopters and those people had heard about the halving because they didn't even know what a bitcoin was.
So while the number of threads about the much awaited halving might be to many for you, they could be good for bitcoin.
