set up a bitcoin wallet for them, preferably an easy one not something like bitcoin core. i think options like Coinbase is good for start from zero knowledge about bitcoin, or an SPV wallet like Electrum.

then either teach them how to buy bitcoin or give them some to teach how receiving works and they can send to learn the sending part also.

only if the person is interested in technical stuff i would explain things like how mining work, and things like that.

also some speculation about the price never hurts.

Weak hands have been complaining about missing out ever since bitcoin was $1 and never buy the dip.
Whales are those who keep buying the dip.

First off you need to explain to them what Bitcoin is and what they can do with it. The Bitcoin.org website has a lot of helpful information about the different aspects of Bitcoin so you could give them a quick tour and answer their questions. Now you have to suggest a Bitcoin wallet to them depending on if they want to use Bitcoin on their cellphones or on their computers. A quick guide on how to send and receive coins and what confirmations are would be helpful as well. And finally you could give them some mbtc to play with in their new shiny wallet  Wink

This is a good question here. I think we as bitcoin community should share our insights on how to do this.

I will use my great imagination with this kind of teaching. I guess some proof and some visual aide will help a lot to make them understand it faster and easier. People are too lazy to listen that is why you also need to make it fast in a way that you will get their attention.

I'm certain that short videos are the best place to start as essentially when you're talking to somebody who doesn't know anything about it, it will feel very abstract to them. So start with these:
1. What is Bitcoin?
2. How Bitcoin works in 5 minutes (non technical)
3. How Bitcoin works in 5 minutes (technical)
The third video is not necessary/recommended depending on the person that you're speaking to.

As the title say, what is the proper way to teach someone about what is Bitcoin?

Bitcoin is such an ethereal, abstract concept that it's always quite difficult to explain to average people

I mean, how do you explain to an everyday average human being that the Blockchain has made it possible for decentralised, autonomous corporations to exist?

How do you explain that, right now, all over the world, there are individuals who are using their GPU's to literally MINE THE INTERNET itself for digital assets that are convertible into any fiat currency?

How do you explain to the average joe that, because of the Blockchain, he now has the exact same power as any central bank in the word to CREATE and initiate value out of thin air?

How do you explain that, because of the blockchain, one day, the washing machine in your kitchen is going to be fitted with a CPU allowing it to run software that will allow it to communicate with other machines via the blockchain.. which will allow this washing machine to detect when it has run out of detergent... place an order for a refill... and then PAY for that refill - with money that it has mined all by itself. How do you explain that to the average Joe?

What will the average Joe think of you when you tell him that, one day, his household appliances, machines and devices will be able to contribute to paying household bills with money that they have generated themselves? Cheesy

There is no way to "explain" bitcoin to the average Joe. You have to SHOW them the power of bitcoin and unless you are engaged in sophisticated development on the blockchain, then maybe you also are yet to realise the true power of the blockchain and need to be "taught." I feel strongly that 90% of the bitcoin community aren't 100% aware of the true capability of this protocol, which is why most people struggle to explain bitcoin to their peers

Well for me first you should explain how bitcoin works and how to have it and where you can hold it.. and teach him how to convert bitcoin in to real money.. if they see that bitcoin is money i think it would be interested..

you can always use articles explaining what bitcoin is in general, you can find simple explanation on bitcoin.org in almost every language possible. also using a simple video is always more effective than a thousand spoken words, searching the youtube you can find a lot of them, you can choose one that is to your liking.

Actually there are many videos on youtube that introduce bitcoin from beginning. You can search it on youtube share it to someone. If you want teach by yourself, you can make it simple like bitcoin is an online currency that same as fiat.

BTC's dynamics are very similar to gold (mining, scarcity, etc.) You can give gold as an example while you are teaching someone about BTC...

I agree... The first coins I got was from a fellow bitcoiner. Although the amount was tiny, about 2000 bits, the way it was transferred to my newly created wallet really got me into learning more about bitcoin.

There's no one particular way of teaching someone what bitcoin is, you tell them what you know and for other things there are tutorials, videos, blogs online. Tell them the basics and send them over here for any other questions they might have.

just explain that person everything in easy to understand words and terms, especially when it comes to people that don't know much about technology related things. if you explain just the basic things then that's more than fine. after that they will search for more information on their own if they so wish.

The most basic thing can be taught from a simple youtube video i think, some of them explain pretty well. And once the person gets interest in bitcoin he would dig out more info himself.

I wouldn't recommend Coinbase... at least recommend Electrum, but I wish there was a way to have "Bitcoin Core lite" so people can run nodes in pruned mode without needing to download the entire blockchain the first time.
If everyone recommends not running nodes to new users, eventually no one will run nodes and that's the death of BTC and we don't want that.
But for sure, no newbie is going to bother to run a node nowadays unless they are tech savvy and understand and like the concept of BTC.

You can easily teach someone about bitcoin. just show them what is bitcoin and how to earn it.. tell them what is bitcoin.
We know that is not easy to teach someone about bitcoin but you demonstrate with them how to have a wallet and how to send and receive bitcoin.
In that way they will learn how bitcoin works...
