Chances are they're working on some way to integrate the PayPal and Xapo system together, since that seems like the only logical step they can take to make themselves more money.

Not necessarily a bad thing, but I personally would prefer the two remain separate.

PayPal don't want to watch the Bitcoin revolution from the sidelines it's going to be undoubtedly a huge market in the future so they would like to start implementing Bitcoin technology sooner than later into their business. By the way Paypal accept Bitcoin payments through their Merchant module so sellers could get paid in Bitcoin for their products and services.

paypal is not available in every country with notable exceptions being Iraq, Afghanistan, North korea and Haiti.. but bitcoin is the first true transnational currency, because it is border- agnostic like the internet.. it can be controlled, but cannot be shut down globally unless electricity is shut off everywhere from the world..

Xapo has been closing annonymity options and alienating some groups of users for a while now. For example the most faucets worked closely with Xapo to make micro payments possible, but Xapo closed that door for them too.
They seem to be moving in the same direction as many of the other Bitcoin businesses, where they bend the knee to adhere to the masters of the fiat system and bow to their rules and regulations to survive.
PayPal can only work with Xapo after they comply to all the rules and regulations PayPal has to adhere too. Xapo sold out privacy features and supporting cheap/free micro payments for big profits.

well for bitcoin is worse, because in some country it is stright banned, so you can not really use it without having some risk, not saying that paypal is better though

Paypal is not available in every country yes and Bitcoin is usable no matter if some countries ban it, they can't ban your internet access (in this case use VPN to by pass being tracked). Bitcoin is better without any doubt, just need more and more users everyday. It would be wonderful if Ebay accepted bitcoin but that will never happen cause Paypal would be dead right away then.

Who knows they might be looking at sidestepping bitcoin and creating their own alternative, but it would make more sense for them to move into bitcoin early to get a piece of the pie and we are still early in the bitcoin era.

the main point is paypal is not available in every country but never banned in some country(block and banned i consider as different thing),and in tier 1 country paypal just make their brand as a good quality service and widely used, more user doesn't give affect if it's passive user

well, everyone wants a piece of this market. and even if PayPal decides to do anything that is related with bitcoin they are just going to create a payment processor in order to get in on the fees they can take from the customers and make more money out of the revolution.

Paypal is highly used and trusted by others user who dont know and dont want to venture in bitcoin.
Bitcoin can compete with paypal via low fees but bitcoin is still not used by most companies.

Payment chargeback is really the killer for Paypal. It is unfair to honest sellers when the buyers are not honest.

I was a seller and was cheated by buyer to send item without tracking in order to reduce cost- ended up the buyer claimed the item never arrived...

Bitcoin development more faster than any others currency , thats why paypal didnt like what can kill any currencies except bits, so by announcement the new director , it means declare war currencies , it looks like they didnt like accepts the bits , cos bits can declare independent payment currencies for itself
go for the bits , make peace in money currencies

PayPal and bitcoin differs completely. Both were a form of transaction supporting network but Bitcoin in a short emerged as a Digital currency which is now growing gradually.

Now I do still believe Paypal are not best of friends with Bitcoin with that being said I'm wondering this year if they are taking a lighter view on it, giving they named bitcoin guru and founder of Xapo, Wences Casares to the board of Directors to assist in running the ship. More on the article from Jan here;

bitcoin create 11 years after paypal founded, and i think bitcoin created for compete or replacing paypal, and its not paypal friend,on that article i just read that maybe paypal will only buy xapo, not embracing bitcoin and than make other currency.

I agree with you paypal should collaborate with bitcoin rather than competing against it both parties will benefit if this will happen so its a win win situation for both sides.

Maybe most of PayPal's efforts will be in vain.

They're trying to apply their old hat methodologies to Bitcoin, but it just isn't going to fly.

Maybe they're intelligent enough to build some form of a product or service on top of the Blockchain, rather than just doing the thing that everyone else with half a brain has already done - which is the same old, same old "integration of bitcoin payments."

What these guy's don't understand is that they are the same breed of middlemen that Bitcoin was designed to disrupt, and Bitcoin doesn't need some third pary, intermediary payment transmission system for it to work. I can easily send BTC payments to anyone, worldwide, without having PayPal deduct their highly inflated fees.

We are in the age of applications as opposed to the oversized, clunky service providing corporations of yesteryear. And bitcoin represents the age of 'decentralised' applications. PayPal has an ethos that is just not compatible with this new world that has been enabled due to Blockchain tech

Maybe they'll be forced to find this out the hard way

Very good post I totally agree with.
I absolutely see no reason why I should use a Paypal created service on top of the Bitcoin Blockchain.I just use Bitcoin direct and that's it.
But maybe Xapo and Paypal try to figure out something completely different.Maybe just something blockchain without Bitcoin related.
