if you have only one gpu etheruem or decred are good, if you're talking about a laptop mining, i think only hodl coin is worth it a bit

For the time being, the Ethereum difficulty is rising fast. So just use the existing graphics cards to mine.

If it is an ordinary PC, then you can mine CPU based coins such as Monero or XMG. If it has graphics cards, then mine Ethereum.

And what can you expect from GPU, if you mining ETH? How much can you earn, per day? Is this worth of try? What about renting miners for ETH? Difficulty is probably very high, it is always the same story..

You can earn Gridcoin with cpu/gpu/asic. There's 26 BOINC projects that the system rewards, each project is rewarded on an individual project basis so ASIC projects do not affect the reward rate of CPU projects. Fancy earning crypto for helping solve cancer/aids/ebola/malaria? Check it out: http://www.gridcoin.us

In long term, the CPU only coin will become botnet only coins. So it is not good for the price of the coin as the mining cost for the botnet operators is very low.

At the moment Ethereum but that can change quickly with the rising difficulty and the somewhat low prices (if you compare with all time high some weeks ago)

The Ethereum price does change quickly. It dropped from 0.027 to 0.0165, but it recovered to 0.0195 now.

But I might sell if the price drop too fast.

When you guys are mining with your laptop isn't this really bad for your health of your laptop. And when you are doing what kind of software are you using.

Can't understand the mindset of laptop and/or CPU mining on a PC. Surely a GPU is worth it for £100 to £300 and reasonable returns if you pick the correct coin?

Software: I am using Windows 10 but I heard that Linux sometimes has better results because their kernel is very different. And why would you use your laptop? Build your own mining PC. That's a solid investment because: The worst case is that you can't mine any coins anymore but then you will still have your hardware. In that case you don't have a total loss. ROI happens very fast and let's face it: It is highly unlikely that you can't mine coins anymore or that the power costs are higher than the money you get for your coins.

For the time being, most coins are GPU mineable and some of the coins are quite profitable. One example is Eth.

The difficulty of mining will increase a lot in the future. It is less profitable.
