I have created an account and been unable to find any "reply" button or any method to respond to any other post.
Creating this new topic under "Bitcoin Forum > Local > Other >" is the ONLY means I have to post on this forum.

NO way is this happening to everyone or the admins would notice nobody is posting.
Is my IP blocked or something?

Due to a mass of trolling, only established posters are able to post in non-newbie sections. You are considered "established" if you have spent 4 hours online and have made 5 posts (new topics or replies).

If you have really good posts, you can post a request for preemptive whitelisting in the appropriate topic.

Also:
- Newbies cannot upload their own avatars.
- You must have made one post in order to send PMs.
- You need 10 posts to put a link in your signature.

Note that it may take up to 10 minutes for your PM or posting permissions to be granted. (The system automatically checks every 10 minutes and promotes people as appropriate.)

Ok, Thank you to the person that replied to me and told me whats up.
Due to trolls etc.. I have to be logged in for 4 hours, and have a bunch of posts.

It would have been nice if the Welcome registration email told people that.  But then the trolls would know.. and easily do what trolls do, and so new users like us have to be really interested to not give up on this site.

Well thats annoying..

So i will have to search these forums for 5 hours and write 5 totally pointless threads, until I can ask for help? Rethink it..

I have a problem, i have setup Litecoin and got a pool(s) and worker(s) and running with CGMiner and it says it's working and stuff, but the websits of the pools doesnt update or show any progress.. like it hasnt even been running.. any fix?

If you look at the bitcointalk stats here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=stats you can see the newbie board is the second most active on this forum. Create a post in the newbie board with the title 'Help CGMiner not updating' and I'm sure someone will help you solve your problem.

Totally agree with indianocean. This is an artificial restriction which may or may not be very effective in stopping "trolls" but is sure to create problems for any active new member.

I now have a problem which is specific to slush's pool and I would like to post my question there, isntead I need to think up 5 silly non-informative replies in order to "go to the next level"...

Or . . . . . . .

You could just post your question here in the Newbie Forum.  Then later when you reach Jr. Member status you can move that post to the appropriate mining forum if you haven't yet received a useful answer.

This rule snagged me too...  I'm not a regular user of forums.  This is the first one I've signed up for in ages.  So I guess I'm not familiar with the process.  But it would have been nice to get that information in a welcome email.

I've been wishing for post access to the alt-coin forum for a month now.

Also, no 'help' email addresses listed anywhere.

How about putting the "Newbies" forum at the top of the list of forums for anyone who can only post in Newbies?  Then I wouldn't have missed it.

As it is, I looked at the top few forums and never looked at the bottom ones.

Lol, I agree that they could send an email or explain it more clearly. But if you are here for a month, you probably could have find the "NEWBIE README" thread and understood what you have to do before unlocking the altcoin forum

Perhaps I could have, but I wasn't looking for it.  I didn't even realize it existed.  I'm not a regular user of forums.  I basically just logged on and read the alt-coin forum, waiting for the day that I could actually respond to some of the threads and looking for an email address to request help from.  Yeah, I didn't look around enough.

So... who thought of stupid thing like this? Like seriously, are you f-in with me? I have to post on newbie forum (which I don't want to do cause I don't have anything to post here) so I can be able to actually comment on something that I'm interested in just because you are incapable to deal with troll accounts? Right... Ok... Well... Here comes 5 stupid posts...

Just make 1 post and then wait for 4 hours, is it really that difficult?

It's not difficult but it's also useless and very annoying. It will not help solve any problems and it will not keep trolls and spam away but it is preventing me from posting for 4 hours.. I have something to say on any topic and I will wait for 4 hours and then get back and post it? Of course not... So, no, it's not difficult but is rather dull... Of course, that is only my opinion. And I have seen people spending tons of money on dogecoin and catcoin, so I guess nothing surprises me anymore...

No. Just make 1 post (either a new thread or a reply), and then wait 4 hours (no need to be online).

I had this problem for ages before I realised it was a restriction. This saddens me greatly as I have been a lurker for years, and often have useful posts to add, but can't until I make this (somewhat useless) post.
