I suggest we all bitcointalk members start campaigning for Bitcoin and send email in numbers to various sites like ebay,Amazon etc to press them for accepting bitcoin

That's not the right way to promote bitcoin. Those trading giants will automatically adopt bitcoin when they feel there are lot users who prefer bitcoin transactions.

According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)
Advertised sites are not endorsed by the Bitcoin Forum. They may be unsafe, untrustworthy, or illegal in your jurisdiction.

I think the right way to promote bitcoin is word by mouth by others and keep promoting on social media sites if it reach to many numbers keep promoting bitcoin well it can possibly catch the eyes of the online stores and will be adopted as their mode of payments and if that happen will very surely it can gather more users globally and internationally.

Ebay has played a great role in the success of PayPal in becoming leading payment processor.Do we need a similar ebay like site to popularize Bitcoin and make it leader in money transfer?
Ebay can sure help Bitcoin to gain more users. If you could buy stuff at Ebay with Bitcoins that in my opinion would be a great partnership. It worked with Paypal so why not with Bitcoin.

eBay has partnered with PayPal and you will not break that bond easily. These payment processors offer centralized services not possible with Bitcoin. You cannot get your account locked with Bitcoin, when you use services that are not approved by the masters of the financial systems.

The users of these systems are so used to the way these sites operate, that it would be weird for them to move to something that gives them complete freedom. ^smile^

It can work many people know Ebay and it has many users. If Ebay helps Bitcoin by promoting them or letting you pay with Bitcoins on Ebay, Bitcoin can become far more popular then it is already.

And unless people see that they can use bitcoin at lots of places including big trading giants like eBay,Amazon etc, they wont adopt bitcoin easily. The only way to increase bitcoin users is to give them lots of places to spend their bitcoin at

If bitcoin got advertised there but isn't used in their website, than it will be useless.

If bitcoin got more universally accepted, then more people will use btc. More people use bitcoin, then those trading websites will implement BTC to their website.

Why in the first place we will like to break the bond between Paypal and Bitcoin. Ebay will just have to considered to add bitcoin to their list of payment methods and that will be a great way to promote bitcoin.

And yes Im agree with your last statement. Users protection are not guaranteed with the freedom that people gets with the used of bitcoin but it has a solution honestly. Smiley

With the amount of fraud that occurs in bitcoinland there will never be a real bitcoin alternative to ebay, when people get burned they'll just stop using it, plus it's much harder to get bitcoins than a Paypal account.

Paypal being funded with bitcoins, that would be awesome.

plus it's much harder to get bitcoins than a Paypal account.

When you make paypal account, you need to make many verification while some exchange lets you buy bitcoin instantly or don't need to make complicated verification.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

It takes something like 10 minutes to make a Paypal account, you can't buy bitcoin in less than 10 minutes...

Paypal being funded with bitcoins, that would be awesome.

That would be very bad, paypal is centralized and do as they like with users funds/account.
There's no point of use bitcoin if it's centralized.

And don't think you even understood what I meant.

this course will help to bitcoin outsiders who don't know bitcoin would wonder at his heart. what is bitcoin? why there are bitcoin as payment method? and then more people will start finding out about bitcoin. most likely they will be interested and adopt bitcoin. The hope of all of us. but ebay reluctant to accept bitcoin

With more publicity, bitcoin will definately be incorporated into our everyday online shopping sites and services.

Honestly I do not think we need such a website that promote the bitcoin, I think if everything goes well with the halving the bitcoin will be popular by itself.
These days more people are already investing in it and looking it up.

Ebay has played a great role in the success of PayPal in becoming leading payment processor.Do we need a similar ebay like site to popularize Bitcoin and make it leader in money transfer?

that is the best way of promoting bitcoin, it is always hard to talk about bitcoin and its benefits while there is very little usage for it and in some countries like mine there is no physical shop that accepts it.
so i guess projects like openbazaar which is like ebay will help a lot in promoting bitcoin.

not needed, but would help obviously, btw if all of us "try" to promote it a little bit more, just by talking to friends about it and show them whats goin on, or share info at social networks etc etc bitcoin, at least i think it, would be more popular than now.

The problem bitcoin has is that it is not a company which can sign a business contract with Amazon, ebay and promote itself as payment method for any any of big retailers.
Bitcoin is more like people's revolutionary payment method and unless it will become huge by itself it won't be regarded by large services like Amazon or eBay.
I don't think that Open Bazaar will change something here.

We've already got sites like Bitify (https://bitify.com/), there were another couple of btc marketplaces but I've forgotten their names now.

I still have high hopes for OB, happy with what they done so far but there are still quite a few issues that need to be addressed.

Ebay is great for getting second-hand stuff. We have an alternative to that already and it's decentralized and open source - OpenBazaar. However in my honest opinion Amazon is the better site for new stuff and a lot of my friends use it way more than Ebay. If Amazon adopts Bitcoin it would be a huge push for getting Bitcoin into the mainstream. If someone launches a Bitcoin alternative to Amazon with the scale and plethora of offered products it would be a dream come true.
Yes, open bazaar is trying to be the alternate of ebay and amazon, but they need to promote their site to all over the world, they are only advertising to those platforms where only bitcoin users available, they should also have to go to other sites.

Thats right. We either have sites that do not accept Bitcoin or sites that accepts bitcoin only.Openbazaar should accept other forms of payment, also if they dont,to attract more people.More popular bitcoin will be,more merchants and people adopt it
