Hi everyone, I’d like to introduce myself first. I am Casper, a 15 years old Web-developer in Hong Kong, start discovering Bitcoin in late 2011.

I think that it is beneficial to teens to touch on Bitcoins, and this is based on my 1.5 years of experience in the Bitcoin community. First, Bitcoin is a good place to start having them to know “What is Money”, it is not just knowing the layer of  “work-earn-spend” but also the supply/value and how the whole thing works. Next, Bitcoin is also a good place for learning to manage money. It is not just something you could learn by reading an economic book. But really a real life experience that you learn and advance. Also, Bitcoin is also a tool that let teens to get in and try their hands in the stock market and learn to invest (knowing you get dividend, and possible to win and lose), since we got things like the BTCT, charges only a little fee and you are welcome to play with.

And the most important thing is that teaching one NOT to gamble in anywhere, anytime with anything. Bitcoin gambling is just easy, one could easily lose their coins with a few clicks. In the reality, you work, and some gamble away and need to have their loans carry throughout his life. Losing and making them have a 0 balanced wallet will have them sad, and knowing gamble will result in losing, to prevent gamble in the future. Last but not least, using coins will let them learn, There are scams everywhere! Be caution anytime.

Above is what I have learnt in Bitcoin, and this big lesson costed me about 30USD. If you have a child, it is good to have them bump and learn in the small world of Bitcoin, instead of the cruel reality.(And it is cheap too!)

Hi Zhou.... welcome back.... lmao

Oh good I'm not the only one who thought that photo looked familiar.

Doctor Who's newest Companion, though? (Didn't Zhou already go from 15 to 17 over about two years a while back?)

I agree, although I also know from my own experience (I'm 15 too) that Bitcoin allows teenagers that don't have a credit/debit card because of law restrictions, to spend money online purchasing goods or whatever. I can honestly say Bitcoin gave me a better quality of life (by bypassing draconian currency exchange control in my country, that along with the age restriction made simple stuff impossible).

I can honestly say Bitcoin gave me a better quality of life (by bypassing draconian currency exchange control in my country, that along with the age restriction made simple stuff impossible).

You hit the nail on the head.

And it isn't just teenagers.

Let's say I commute a long distance and buy 25 gallons of gas each week.  That costs currently (in California) a little over $100, for nearly $500 per month.  The price of gas has been going up and there are rumors of it going up even further.     If I am an airliine or operate a fleet I can buy WTI crude oil CALL options or futures contracts on WTI crude where I can lock in the price so that even if it does go up I will see gains on those investments.    But as a consumer, just trying to protect the price I pay for the next couple of months, there are no affordable methods for me to invest like this.   I can buy a crude ETF on the stock exchange but the trading fees are too high to buy a contract on just $1,000 worth of oil.

Does not apply to bitcoin. [Edit: Bitcoin user not affected. ]

Except, using bitcoins I can go over to ICBIT.se and buy a future contract to buy a barrel of WTI crude, with a deposit of as little at 1 bitcoin (using the leverage provided), or the depositing the full amount needed to buy a contract and not using any margin.

Now the OP's suggestion to not gamble whatsover kind of applies to this.  Speculation on crude oil is like gambling.  But if you are already going to be spending the money on gas, it isn't gambling but instead trading off an unknown (gas price in the future) for a known (cost of the oil because it is being purchased and paid for today).

So yes, bitcoin is very useful in bypassing restrictions and other forms of control that should not exist.  It's fantastic to see young people discovering bitcoin as a way to not give away control over their own lives.

[Edit: Incidentally, Casper was the author of a tool that I had found very useful.  It was a stock price display site that screen-scraped from GLBSE, and it was fantastic.  Of course, when GLBSE went away so did that site  [Nope, still there just no data:  http://chromaticcreative.net/bitcoin/ticker.php ], but I wanted to express my gratitude to Casper for that and to share his contribution here.  [His current project:  http://bitcoin.chromaticcreative.net ]

Thanks for your appreciation to my projects. The project of the GLBSE ticker was created beacuse of the intensive tradings going around (wish ASICMiner and NYAN), there are almost trading every minutes, therefore it was created. After the takedown of GLBSE, I am not really into modifying the code and create another since the tradings are just too static for frequently polling those stocks server, even more they are decentralized (see how many markets we have, lol). But the core of this thing is still being applied on the Dragon Tales (A 3D Bitcoin MMORPG casino) chat notification. At here.

The current relaunched project Know a Bit More, and the MEGA cashback are running on my servers. And creating your own service could also let you learn things like customer relationship blah blah blah....

Of course, I've improved it and running good, still waiting for someone to advertise on our service though.

If you want to learn more about our site's service, i recommend you to read my article Thoughts on the current model of advertising in Bitcoin. To know my philosophy of advertising, what is the new approach of our one of a kind Bitcoin advertising service. And what inspired us to create a more intuitive channel to advertise, thus create a win-win solution for both advertisers and newbies.

We are always open at http://bitcoin.chromaticcreative.net , also learn more about the inspiration of this site, by SolveMeida. With their video here.

Hi everyone, I’d like to introduce myself first. I am Casper, a 15 years old Web-developer in Hong Kong, start discovering Bitcoin in late 2011.

I’d like to discuss about the issue of the shortcoming of the current models of advertising in Bitcoin. We’ve got 2 kinds of ads going around here. First, we’ve got the banner ads floating around the site with Bitcoins, next we’ve got those kind of site where newibes could click and earn some money. And today, I’d like to focus on this type of advertisement in Bitcoins.

The target of these advertisment are to the new guys to Bitcoin. But what I found is that, some of them are just promoting the site which is not even relating to Bitcoins, which it really lose the effect of printing the business to a Bitcoin newibes’ mind (like getting the first place in his mind. When think of a Bitcoin Gambling service? I saw this on advertised, seems good!).
Secondly, is the method to “sell” a site to them. Currently, site are just using the “stay here for... minutes” method, and try to have them to read the site from top to bottom. But in the reality, they just go to the next tab and scroll their Tweets and Facebook. Even if they are reading, they don’t even have coins to spend and grow your business (this is the reason why they visit you!)

Instead, I’ve thought and produced this new service, Know a Bit More. And this is our approach. We replaced the almost useless Captcha to a question which customized by the advertising merchants. As a result, the visitor will have a motive to read through your website, find the pros of your site and fill it to answer and earn coins. So your ads gets memorable and they will revisit when they got coins to spend! (Yeah, our philosophy is similar to SolveMedia Captcha Advertising).

Wish more business will be joining with Bitcoin, making Bitcoin the common and well-known payment channel of the world. Share your opinion below and like if you appreciate Cheesy
