I was just wondering as to which modern day computer would generate the most bitcoins. I tried with a couple of ol computers and they failed miserably. I wonder if the computer speed has any difference on the amount of BTC produced over a certain time period. I would also like some suggestions of good computers for Bitcoin mining. Thx.  Smiley Smiley Smiley

Absolutely no computer of any size shape cost or form can produce bitcoin in any meaningful capacity whatsoever any more. Even the most powerful supercomputer is useless. You need dedicated ASIC bitcoin mining hardware to mine bitcoins. The computers don't do the mining, they just run the mining hardware.

Could generate sha hashes from transaction data and a nonce value of your  choice by hand using math? then hope you can submit it and hope the network was unlucky not to have found a block in the several hrs it takes, then hope it meets the difficulty target, then your quids in! You might as well do this if you are using a computer only Smiley

On a serious note, an ASIC is needed. It is not a get rich quick scheme. If you have a decent graphics card, you might be able to mine some etherium and convert it to bitcoin and make a couple of quids worth while its hot! A single medium to high end AMD card will get £50 monthly roughly of etherium atm which could be converted to bitcoins, minus power costs. That is the only way to mine with a computer and that is by proxy. Very few actual bitcoin ASICs are profitable atm unless power is free or extremely cheap. It is best invested to buy the  coins as I did

simple answer, there is not a good computer for bitcoin mining, but if you want to mine some of the current cpu alt coins, then, there is some good cpu that could work better than others, but thats another history that you are not asking about... so forget the idea about mining bitcoin with only cpu, you are loosing your time.

CPU-GPU mining ended years ago. You are late like 5 years. Now there are ASICS, which are specialized just for btc mining and they cost a fortune, which will cost dust when its newer version come up. Smiley

I have one of these "supercomputers" and I still can't do anything. I can barely get 0.0001BTC in a few days mining at highest capacity possible. Buy an ASIC.

GPU mining of BTC ended years ago, but GPU mining suprised me and is making a small comeback.  Hard to say long term but check out ether... i did not think any coin would make GPU's profitable possibly but it proved me wrong.

But that would fall into the alt-coin area for sure.  No BTC mining.

What are some of the best hardwares available in the market at the moment?

ITs now Asics.
You can still mine Altcoins though, it would be profitable if you customize to have a series of GPU connected to your CPU.
if given the time that I can set up mine later, I may treat it my business. The draw back though is that coins to be mine and limited.

Current gen most popular would be the S7.   And there is a A6 coming in as second on sales I would say.   Research those when looking at hardware, but I suggest browsing the hardware forum.  It will show many great threads about Bitcoin Asics.

I suggest researching Asics, Basic (current) Mining Info, and Return on Income.

There are quite a few coins that are profitable to GPU mine - Ethereum is probably the leader right now, but that's subject to change.

 I am wondering how well the GTX1070 and GTX1080 will do on it - if the 1070 can just MATCH the best AMD cards, it's power efficiency will kick some serious ...

 I also suspect those cards might put a bit of hurt into X11 ASIC folks, though I'm pretty sure the ASIC stuff will still be more efficient - just not by as wide a margin over current GPUs.

I'm no longer legendary just in my own mind!

yeah right today  an s-7 with a psu would be about 650 usd

burns 1325 watts at the wall and makes  about 2.75 usd  a day after power if your power is 10 cents a kwatt. or 82.50 a month

if you know how to build a cheap rig

mobo         = 75 usd
windows 7  = 40 usd
cpu            = 45 usd
psu            = 90 usd
ram           = 40 usd
dvd player = 20
ssd           =  60
total         = 410
2 r9 380's = 390

price = 800  power used =   400 watts

you get 40 mh   for the 400 watts  that is about 135 usd  - 30 power

at ten cents  so net is 105 a month  but you have a real computer with good video cards.

 you use 400 watts not 1325 watts

and you mine Eth coin not btc...... so for today right now it is an easy choice
