has someone ever told you that usb stick are going to malfunction if not used for maybe around 2 months or so? its like appliances in your house. if not used for month, there are tendencies that it won't work at all. its better to just print a paperwallet instead.

You didn't take those pictures with your phone did you?

Pictures taken with a phone usually include a GPS location. Unless you manually turn that feature off.

There might be very small possibilities of these failure situations when our savings were spend on bitcoin. Better option is to spend a part or a small portion rather than spending the entire earning got from hard work.

Basically your idea is good i think.
But you shouldn't post this in public.
Now people dont care.. but what if price rises in 10-15 years..
Better keep such thinks private.

Funny story! But if you have really invested so much in bitcoin, then I think you have take a wise decision.

Just keep checking the prices of bitcoin every quarter. Just to make sure that you are making profit by investing in to bitcoin.

If I were you, then I would have invested in 5 bitcoin and rest amount I would invested in trading bitcoins instead of keeping it idle. Anyway, best of luck!

I wish you luck! I also believe that bitcoin will cost much in some years. So keep it. I plan to do the same after i make some bitcoin, but now I am only newbie. If to see on the developing of bitcoin we all may see that it's growing, so I suggest it will continue to grow.
I wish luck to everyone who bought some bitcoins and stay it on the side for future!

I don't know if it's really a good idea to use USB sticks for that, I would have made a paper wallet and laminated it.  You say you burried it? What if moisture reaches those USB sticks and they don't work anymore? Not saying it's a bad idea to put your savings into Bitcoin, but I think you could have done it in a better way.

I don't think laminating a paper wallet would necessarily be a good idea either, as the lamination could start to peel or wreck the wallet in another way, and it would require more effort to be put into it in order to make sure that it all comes out fine and the Bitcoin is recoverable, as opposed t a USB.

I'm not saying a USB is amazing either, but I think it is better than a paper wallet being buried underneath the ground and expecting it to go well.

Don't worry you haven't made any bad thing but you have made a good investment and count it as a long investment, i like your idea putting (holding) 5/6 of total bitcoins on a safe place.

true, the lamination could cause trouble so maybe a waterproof, fireproof, tamperproof, earthquake-proof double insulated reinforced hardened titanium vault/safe could do the trick and then you put both laminated and unlamented paper wallets inside so incase the 'waterproof' proofed to have a tiny little leak and say there's a flooding then the paperwallet with the lamination might just do the trick and the unlaminated paper wallet might be lost. Of course CD's too and maybe an expensive lifetime guarantee USB for convenience and ease of use.

It almost felt like i was the who started that topic about 2 months ago. I want to share my own experience with you mate. I did the same thing about 2 months ago and it felt really sad. I had spent long time to save some bitcoin and it was last thing i wanted. However, please don`t give up and start over again. If you work hard you will always get there again. Higher your savings get, more motivated you get to save more and more again. I know it is not easy, i have been there but trust me and start over again mate. Good luck!

what's the point of showing the picture of where you hid it,I just hope no one here knows who you are 5 bitcoin is still huge,in my case I would have it on separate usb and hid it different locations,it's like yamashita treasure then you draw a map in it and give it inheritance to all your grandsons, bitcoin could then be worth hundreds of thousands, well we hope it does..

usb sticks is not so brilliant idea.. it maybe corrupt on some few year or more..  the best thing you do print the details you have btc wallet website and password on high quality print several copy then buy some ziplocks you can zip it 5 bags or more so its totally sealed and dont forget the silica gel to absord moisture. buy some waterproof sealed casing either metal or plastic put it on ziplock again with silica gel and buried that thing where you can remember 20 years from now. Yeah, you don't have to regret anything that you spent all your savings in bitcoin. You just need to start again and need to be more cautious on how are you going to be wise with your money. And investment is a nice thing to grow your bitcoins.

So the general consensus here on the forum is that USB sticks lose data if left unpowered for a few months. What about hardware wallets then? Don't they use the same flash memory like the USB sticks? How can they have a guaranteed lifespan of decades considering that people tend to use them as cold storage and won't connect them to a PC for years?

I think I am going to buy a 3d printer and print out my private keys in some durable resin so it will last forever. Or I will get my keys etched out on a metal card instead. Then I am going to bury that in my backyard. Go to hell hardware wallets  Grin

Better to get or buy your own vault and put all your money there instead of using hardware wallets, but you can't store your bitcoins there since bitcoin is a digital currency. Just exchange your bitcoins into fiat money.

... i went into my backyard and dug a hole underneath the bird fountain, i dug the hole almost 3 feet under. Then i buried it back and placed the bird fountain back.

The bird fountain has been in the same spot for many years so i am not worried about forgetting where i buried it, and grass doesn't grow underneath it.

Cool! So whereabouts is this? I'm very curious to look at your birdbath. You could say I'm a birdbath connoisseur (as of right now). I would also like to inspect and see if they are really waterproof. I can test it by plugging the USBs into my computer for you. Consider it a free service Smiley.
