I do not believe in the story but if it is true, good luck to OP. I hope he will still recover his bitcoin after 20 years and the usb are not working anymore because of corrosion. And i hope it make it thru the hard times ahead being broke and find some money to survive all the years ahead.

Something that is very harmful, because this is one of the disadvantages of Offline storage. For if we do the improper storage, then we could be like the OP he lost much of the BTC just because the stuff is no good.

Did OP write his keys in a slip of paper and secure it in a air tight bag? There's a discussion that usb storage has to be powered sporadically else data will be lost.

Also he should have kept an alternate as its a huge amount else he could have stored as small portions. The mistake is upon the user.

Well, assuming you actually followed through with this, you are either incredibly confident or incredibly stupid.

I'm not saying it is necessarily a bad investment, but you must be very confident in the future of Bitcoin and its ability to maintain value over long periods of time. $2300 USD is a fairly large investment, and I hope that you pay attention to the market and play it right so you can make some money off of it.

Good luck with your investment.

just shows the type of people using this forum,
$2300 is a tiny investment if he wants to earn a decent amount
BTC would need to fly past pluto for him to earn anything considerable

should make a paper wallet and laminate it at least twice,
then dip that in wax or something similar that will seal it
then seal in a bag, then in plastic airtight container with some silica gel

or he could just make a paper wallet and stck it behind a picture in the home.

but USB sticks or memory cards are awful to store anything,
just think back how many usb sticks you have had that have failed at one point or another

About u being broke, well, the price WILL go up quite soon so your investment will be sound.

About u placing BTC in your backyard, DUDE, this 2016, there are normal solutions for cold storage.

The seal part you are describing sounds quite thorough I have to say, but if he stick it behind a pic and a robber breaks in house and steals the picture the wallet is lost too. A Vault is a good solution imo.

As long as he has a very strong password to protect the file, he can store it in many email boxes.

I think OP was just having some fun. He boldly shared his experience and kept every one here entertained.

There was a discussion on here no so long ago about keeping private keys on USB sticks. I think most people agreed that it was not a viable/safe option for the long term (10 years or more) as apparently it is possible that you lose data after some time.

Yes op is just giving his cent on his experience on spending all his savings on bitcoin but something happened that made him broke.
This is a good thing for us, so that things in future like this we can prevent it.

I think you should hold most of your coins for the long term. You might use some to make your life better.

Bank dont provide high Interest rates. As compared to this, bitcoin prices rises too quick that you can earn more profit, if you use it as a mode of investment rather than relying on the low interest rates which banks offer.  Only thing is that you have to be careful with your wallet, as if your are careless than you can have same trouble as OP has told here before.

Lol.

No , not yet . It is better to dig it up after the price reach as far as like $800. It is not impossible, just wait and see. Keep calm and wait for the Bitcoin price to spike before the end of 2016. You'll not be broken OP, for sure you will be COMPLETE  Grin.

Yeah I agree this is not the right time to dig up his bitcoins, needs to wait for time for the halving. Or even better dig up after the halving.
Op has been broken by bitcoin and bitcoin will fix again your broken feeling op.  Cool
