Topic inspired by this one:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1465578.0

It is a quite interesting subject - making a small mint of "coins" (tokens actually)

Just a curious - how much it costs to mint a small mintage of 1Oz silver coins?

I was going to say talk to bigtimespaghetti, but looks like he was already in on that thread. Also buying his book is useful to learning how to go about making coins.

But you'll have to pay for metals, the production costs, as well as the die for the coin to be struck with.

Edit: Here's an excerpt from Northwest Territorial Mint.

How much does it cost?
To create any coin or medallion, two engraved steel dies are required - one for the obverse or "heads" side and a second for the "tails" or reverse side. The designs on these dies are derived from hand-carved plaster sculpts created by experienced artisans. The cost for a single die typically ranges from $150 to $1,500, depending on the intricacy of the design. We also offer a wide range of stock designs at little or no charge. You should note that factors such as the materials used to mint your medallion, customized edges, engraving, high relief designs, specialty packaging, and other options will impact the total cost of your project.

That is useful info - appreciate it!

Silver is dirty cheap - that is not a problem. Coin design is a problem and probably will cost more that dye. All "coins" offered here are simply ugly as hell.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but plenty of people have put a lot of hard work into those coins and to call "all" coins here ugly is kind of ignorant. Are you an artist or for some reason think you'll be able to wow people with artwork you thought of?

First of all - you are right - not all, majority

Good thing about feeling the beauty - you should not have any ability to create the beauty

Just have a look on this coin - it is BEAUTIFUL!

http://www.apmex.com/product/89607/2-oz-silver-coin-biblical-series-david-goliath

And I will tell you that, artist designer will tell you that, cleaning lady from our department will tell that etc

Just for example - picked up first thread:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1306251.0

That token is really ugly

I don't think the coin you linked to is great and I believe the NastyFans coin has a much higher quality.  The coin you linked to is also rimless with no reeded edges which are two added qualities that make a great coin IMO.

The privateer is a much better looking High Relief coin - http://www.bgasc.com/product/2-oz-silver-privateer-ultra-high-relief-pirate-rounds/silver-rounds-2-oz-5-oz

Do you find any of the bitcoin coin designs favorable?

Actually yes - I agree with Fortify that some people really made a great job!

Am I right that to mint let's say 250 coins including nice design will cost around $ 5k?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I would never buy that coin you linked and I hope your design will be much better.  Wink
