When an exchange is shut down by authorities (in this case SEC), is the exchange not committed to let the user payout their coin balances?

I guess you will only lose if the exchange has some financial problems.

it could that someone lose ton of money and they suing them. i'm 100% sure if SEC or law enforcement to look into this they will going to find ton of flaws and illegal activities, it don't even need to go to trial. a few words, defraud, market manipulation or even money laundering

IANAL but if an exchange was shut down by some authority, don't you think it could take months (or longer) to get any coins out? And coins that predominantly trade on that exchange may have dramatically changed in value (for better or for worse) by the time you are able to withdraw?

Has there ever been any exchange at all, shut down by some authority?

Never happened, as I do remember. They usually make a runner on their exit scamm.

1) The SEC would not likely be involved with Poloniex since they aren't involved in the sale or transfer of securities.
2) It'll be state regulators that would investigate/regulate Poloniex as an MSB/Money Transmitter if anything.
3) What laws have they broken?

This thread is shitty speculation.

first to everything.
like i said if someone lose a ton of money they have the rights to sue. chance the authority would look into this. poloniex being high flying with ton of fees collecting every days the authority soon going to sniff at them. i don't believed anyone would believe polo is playing fair.

that's for poloniex to prove it and show their records, not me. i'm sure there would probably another count of tax evasion on this.

That's retarded. Prove you don't work for Bitstamp, Bitfinex or another exchange. Show us your records.

heck with this kind of daily volume all it need is one smart IRS to crack the poloniex code and don't require much work
at this point poloniex need to file tax quarterly, if it don't add up check for tax evasion. daily volume ten and hundred millions of dollars from market manipulations, it is just a matter of time someone report this to IRS to look into this company. IRS have nothing to lost from audit this tax evasion market manipulative company.

add up all the daily volume, calculating the fees then BAM this vaporware scam ethereium and poloniex is gone. all it need is 1 smart IRS.

Yeah polo is hype now because of such volumes (mainly bots of whales) and well they will be a target (as we've seen from DDOS's and such).  who know if real SEC or Gov. will examine them.  But if they didn't have vol's they would be dead again and behind bittrex.  At least 1ex.trade is working on V2. and bring some legitemacy to exch's soon.  Just no vol's whicih sucks Sad

Probably made such as an excuse, Cryptsy had an excuse before that the government has something to do with the site shutting down. Well we all know that's not true though.

Even if there is no risk of the SEC or other body shutting down Poloniex, I wouldn't recommend leaving 'much' coins in there.
Most exchanges have been hacked or had some difficulties, it wouldn't be too strange is Poloniex did too.

They are turning over a LOT at the moment. People will be trying to pick their pockets somehow.

Polo is the most recognizable exchange with the most volume after Cryptsy is gone. Unless anyone is facing problem withdrawing their bitcoin/altcoins, it would not be fair to accuse them of scam. So far, I have not heard anybody complaining that their withdrawal is delayed and the mod is always active in the trollbox.

some people accused poloniex of market manipulations. from this market manipulations would also included tax evasion, defraud and even money laundering. all it need is 1 smart ass IRS to crack. record and snap shot daily volume, calculating the fees and make sure poloniex pay the correct amount. poloniex being cooperated with the scammer(s) chance they don't pay much tax.
