  Hi everyone,

As per Josh on BFL's announcements page / ASIC Update thread:

  28 Feb 2013 Update

"The ASIC team has been working all day on testing the various aspects of the chip. There have been no problems so far and all 16 engines hash properly at 250 MHz. Full range tests are scheduled for tomorrow to see how high we can the engines past 500 MHz (the nominal speed the chips are slated to run at).

No update on the bumping at the moment, but I should have one tomorrow as to the disposition of that."

---------------

I'm glad to see them coming along, even if delayed.  Thanks for the update Josh.

---------------

  Edit: 3-2-13

Josh mentioned that Bumping is now completed.  We'll be awaiting further details then I guess.

PL's post is actually pretty useful and informative.  Lots of newbies probably haven't seen that chart before.

Hanging around these forums too long will age anyone though  Grin

I haven't kept up with all the updates. But I was guessing that each chip would do 1.5GH/s.

Why?

Simple reason.

Jalapeno is rated for 4.5GH/s
Singles @ 30GH/s & 60GH/s
Rig @ 1500GH/s

The highest GH/s that a chip could be and be a factor of each of these values is 1.5  Tongue

So, if true, the Jalapeno would have 3 chips.
Singles 20 and 40 respectively.
And a nice even 100 chips for the rig.

No. Japaleno is 1 chip, Little Single is 4, Single is 8.

So 1 chip does (or should do (finally, to match or beat Avalon)) ~8 GHash/s.

Japaleno has lower clocks.

Has BFL even stated that they would provide firmware to allow OC?

Never read that.

So in theory a Jalape~o can be overclocked?

Regarding overclocking.
Quote from: BFL_Nasser
Quote from: MrTeal
Any comment on whether commands for frequency control and fan speed control can be added to allow control of that through cgminer rather than having it tied to a particular firmware?

Both will be added in the next revision, due to be released in a few days. Regarding fan, there will be an intelligent mode where the card itself manages the fan speed, and an override mode where the host can control the fan in 5 or 6 speed steps. However, if extreme temperatures are reached, the board will either take action and increase the Fan to maximum, or if it already is at maximum, then it will stop accepting jobs until the engines are cool again. (This applies to extreme temperatures and we haven't determined the exact numbers yet ).

Regarding frequency control, we are looking at it as we speak.

Regards,
Nasser

Also, as to the question of clock speed vs hashrate, I would say it's extremely likely that each of the 16 hashing engines will produce 1 hash per clock cycle. Therefore you have 469MHz giving 7.5GH/s for the Singles.

What is curious to me (having two Single SC's on pre-order) is the size of these Avalon units. From all indications we have so far, the BFL Single SC will occupy a ~quarter of the cubic space of the Avalon miner at an equivalent hashing rate.

In theory, anyway.

Nothing new in the picture. BFL customers have been shown their boxes months earlier. However BFL didn't falsely claimed they were shipping them.
Now, PuertoLibre has got his "miracle" picture. It seems they are empty. It's strange they didn't take pictures of piles of boards or half ready devices, while they claim they are going to start shipping on Monday.
