I mistakenly clicked the donate button then clicked a thread there and was amazed.
50 btc to become vip here?
I saw that many people already donated.
Counting the donation , It meab theymos and co got about or more than 5000 btc to share. I drank so much so maybe i didnt see that clearly. Please can someone with clear eyes confirm if thts what i saw?

In order to get the maximum amount of activity points possible, you just need to post once per day on average. Skipping days is OK as long as you maintain the average.

That 50 bitcoin could just worth $1 each when the donation was done. I do not think most people will donate that much now.

More than 5000btc for a new forum? Ok so when will this new forum surface. That post was posted 2011. Btc price tgen was about 10$ /btc Idiots in this scenerio are fools that will actually pay 50btc to to get a VIP badge. Let me know if that answers your question. What's meta? Your initial questions have been answered. Theymos will not change the pricing out of respect for the people who have donated previously, because 50 BTC = 50 BTC regardless of the fiat equivalent. In other words, if those people had not donated back then, they could have 50 BTC today.
Ok so when will this new forum surface.

The logic of 50btc then is same as 50btc now didn't make sense. There have been changes in value and supply. People invest in btc because the fiat value.
50btc for vip is just ridiculious.
50btc then won't get you what you get with 50btc now

Again, you have to perceive the 'issue' from the 'donators' side as well: the people that have donated the 50 BTC back then, could have 50 BTC today if they hadn't. This is why the required amount does not need to change. Besides, the forum does not need the donations anymore (it used to for hosting and whatnot). I doubt that we are going to see some changes anytime soon.

I do wonder when the last donation was that earned the donor either VIP or Donator status. But I'm far too lazy to research this. It'd be neat to have that sort of status but paying that price nowadays would be insane unless you won Powerball or something. Or if bitcoin dropped back to $1. |

The Donator/VIP tag prices are in BTC and they are not pegged to USD.The prices won't be reduced. They may be increased if the BTC price gets really low. Additional lower-price statuses may be created later. I don't want to manually deal with too many payments, though.
I intend to add new, cheaper donator ranks. I won't decrease the price of the old ranks, though I may rename them (to "Donator+" and "VIP+" or something like that).
I said a long time ago that the prices would remain the same, so I can't change this policy now in any case. Are the new ranks' price going to be variable or adjusted every x days or months depending on BTC price? Maybe. I haven't thought about it much yet. The forum doesn't need donations, so I'm not going to create another donator level soon. |

I'm sure the only people who donated 50BTC did it a long time ago, when Bitcoin wasn't worth much.
Since they donated a long time ago, they have been on the forum a long time and the VIP status shows this.
We probably won't see any new users with this title unless they want to spend a lot of money to get it.
And that's okay.
