Your point is? Majority of the BTCs were donated back than when BTC was worth little to nothing when converted to fiat. What are your trying to incite here? The remaining of the funds are properly used and managed by Theymos if I am not wrong, for example in the making of a new forum using custom software. If you do not have a reason for the post title, what is your point? It has no link to this subforum at all

That is nice thing in my opinion. If you earn in next 5 years some big amount of bitcoins, it would be nice you to donate also. But now I'm talking about big earning. Like to buy 10 btc now (that is 4, 400 $ ) and to sell it for 20 000 $ each for like 7 years. Why not do donate couple thousands here, where you learned almost everything you know. And for sure on this place you find work to earn money to buy that bitcoins.
As I saw part of that money is used for this form to work properly, to not have problems. Someone needs to do million things for us here, so we can use this forum for learning and earning. Why to not have some salary?
It's a good thing, one day if I make big money I will also donate. But it is a very big "if", I'm working on it.

They donated those coins when the price was less than $1 or may be $10 and 50 BTC was considered max donation if I am not wrong. Nobody knew bitcoins would reach $450-$500 that time and there have been treasurers too who still hold 250 BTC or more till date. People now as well donate BTC.

Yes, theymos is using these funds for the new forum and he has spent a lot in this forum as well (for the Ddos attacks and all). It's a donation and not from paid membership or anything, so it's fine IMHO.

What's your point?

I once donated to the forum back when BTC was sub $1.00 because I needed the hard drive for a machine I was building and couldn't find a USB LOL

Could have easily had VIP account but saw no need for it at the time.

I don't have a problem with how the funds are being used.

If you haven't donated you really don't have any reason to be concerned.

Bitcointalk.org is privately owned by theymos, basically all bitcoins donated to the site belongs to him.

I am not sure that is correct.

I know theymos is the administrator of the forum. The domain name is owned by Sirius. I own bitcointalk.  Cool

Quote from 2012:

Sirius founded the forum and still owns the domain name, so I would say that he owns it.

This type of thread has been created many, many times. If you haven't donated then you really don't have any right to moan or question it at all.

Like others have said, most of the donated bitcoin's were at a time when the price was very low.

These type of threads remind me of the ones that start - 'VIP status is 50 bitcoin's' 'it's not fair that some people got VIP when the price was really low'

Holy fuck, BitcoinTalk is almost insolvent having ONLY 71.23084463 BTC remaining in its coffer!

I suggest, everybody, to abandon ship, leaving me and my sockpuppets behind to make sure everybody gets off safely while the band covers Hocus Pocus by Focus.

Very nice, people should be donating some more!

Hey, maybe theymos should accept RateCoin for donations given that it's operated by an honorable lot, namely Leroy Fodor, Michael Zinck (but of StakeMiners), and Chantha Owen Lueung of the venerable Crypto-city.com where ALL scammers are welcomed but not trolls, defined by Owen as those who expose scammers. Back in the day, someone spent 10,000 BTC for a pizza, so I don't really think donating 50 BTC was a big deal. OK, things are different now, but since donations are no longer needed and we're not required to pay anything, there's no reason to complain Wink

Under construction.

The thing with donation is - they are never required. They are optional. I just hope that mythical new board will the the best damn message board on the whole internet.
Because it will definitely be the most expensive one.

People donated 9226BTC, not 4 073 000$, because at that time it was worth a lot less.

God! That was a sharp reply. I believe the guy was just trying to point out that people like this forum, they see it's value and are willing to contribute such a huge sum to keep it going. No harm done.
Thanks Grin
