Transferring BTC off old wallet

Hi, I have an old wallet that I am trying to get my BTC off of that is over a year behind the sync. I read that I could just send it even though it wasn't synced. Anyway I did a test send of 0.1 BTC, when I look at the transaction on blockchain it is showing:

Inputs and Outputs
Total Input   4.1675 BTC
Total Output   4.1675 BTC
Fees   0 BTC
Estimated BTC Transacted   0.1 BTC


I updated my wallet to the latest and it is showing -4.1675 BTC ? I am confused why did it subtract that much from my wallet? Is it going to be returned once it is fully confirmed? Also it has been 3 hours and it still hasn't completed...

Well I just updated my existing wallet to the newest version... so it is still trying to sync. I don't get why it would subtract over 4 BTC when I only sent 0.1 though?


Also just to clarify my wallet shows -0.1 BTC, however the actual balance shows  -4.1675 BTC less than before I sent the 0.1 BTC.

Well, you probably used an 4 BTC input, and created a 0.1 and a ~3.9 output (the 3.9 going to a change address). Maybe your wallet behaves weird because it isn't synced, so it doesn't see the change yet.
Could you show us the tx id? at this point i'm just making an educated guess.

Since you clearly indicated you were trying to send 0.1BTC as a test, i think it's safe to assume 4.0675 was sent to a change address. I'm reasonably sure the 4.0675 output will pop up as in input as soon as your wallet is synced..

btw: at the moment, this transaction is unconfirmed, you can see in your receiving wallet if there is an unconfirmed incoming transaction? I think most wallets show those.

I think so as well. The question is when the TX will confirm, considering that its not paying a fee. The sinlge input has 124009 confirmations though, so I think it will get confirmed soonish. In order to help this a bit I will keep broadcasting the raw TX[1] maybe others will help as well.

Due to the test TX I would not recommend exporting the private keys, but rather wait for the sync to finish unless there is a reason why its not easily possible (disk too small) or it would take too long (coins must be moved until a certain time).

1. You sent your transaction with 0 FEE . Why would you do this stupid thing ? Where do you think you are ? 2014 ? 2015 ?

Never send transaction with 0 FEE they will never get confirmed !

2. You did not mention what wallet are you using . Why dont you explain that to the people here ?

3. Your wallet has been out of sync  Why are you atempting to send money from a off synced wallet ? why dont you have to patience for it to sync with the network ? then send money .

That is completely untrue.  It depends on priority.

And to demonstrate that, it appears that transaction already has confirmed.

What's actually "mind bothering" is your insistence on giving advice (and attempting to point out mistakes of others) when you yourself clearly have no idea what you're talking about.  The OP's post had far less mistakes than anything you just said.

The transaction is already confirmed.  What makes you think that it's stupid or that this isn't 2016? Clearly, there was nothing wrong with the OP sending a 0 Fee transaction.

It seemed likely from the context of the question that the OP is using Bitcoin Core.  Additionally, the specific wallet they were using wasn't useful information for answering their question. It was pretty clear from their description (and even more so when they posted the transaction ID) that they were seeing a spent output and nout yet seeing the change from that transaction.

I send bitcoins from a wallet that isn't synced all the time.  There is no need to wait for synchronization to complete as long as you aren't sharing addresses across multiple wallets, and you don't need access to funds from any recently confirmed transactions.
