I looked last time at some legendary profile,and i have notices 5000 of posts there.

Seems you could turn Legendary anytime from a certain amount of activity to another.

Legendary:

Activity: the Legendary membergroup has no universal activity requirement.
You are guaranteed to become Legendary somewhere between 775 and 1030 activity,
but the exact point in this range at which you become Legendary is random per user.
Gets 5 gold coins under his name of which the last is half dark blue.

My rank changed at 1008 i think.. i had not been paying too much attention.
(or the activity level right before 1008)

i already knew i was Legendary so this was just a mere formality
And yup mid-2013 to mid-2016 = about 3 years of LOTS of activity / posts / bans etc.

Just wait until you get to see the VIP section of the forum once it's unlocked for you.
That is where the Pump-Groups etc hang out and make big money $$$
Legend status has privileges
