They have their intranet type thing but even that's only reserved for the elites. Looking at how much hacking they get up to there must be some genuine internet access but maybe it's military only.

There'll be people close to the Chinese border with cell phones that work on Chinese networks so maybe there's a tiny opening there. I doubt they'd give a shit all the same. Give 'em a big cake instead.

Well they must have an internet access first, because according to the Wikipedia.
Quote
Internet access is available in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea), but only permitted with special authorization and primarily used for government purposes and by foreigners.
Because Bitcoin is on the internet, they can't use it without the internet.

Imagine a Bitcoin revolution inside North Korea. I find this idea fascinating, of some underground people starting spreading Bitcoin around. The problem is they just have some sort of intranet.. so how would we be able to start spreading nodes inside North Korea? This would be great to start an underground economy beyond the dictatorship of that fat dude.
The North Korean government severely limits its citizens.
Most of them do not have internet, few television channels and their rights are limited.
So, I do not really think that they have access to Bitcoin.

The problem is that their access to the internet (or technology in general) is severely limited.

Try explaining what bitcoin is to their supreme leader and maybe they'll make an altcoin that only works with their intranet. That would be close enough.

Even in the "free" world bitcoin doesn't have much of an adoption rate.  What would a bitcoin revolution inside of North Korea look like?  How would it manifest itself and what would be the end result?

Well for starters it could potentially allow the locals to experience something outside of the dictatorship without drawing attention to themselves. It could be a lifeline to those who want to escape, if they could somehow convert their local currency to Bitcoin. The problem though is that the currency North Koreans use is not really available outside of the country so it won't be easy for them to convert their money to Bitcoin.

Why would you want to endanger people's lives with this endevour? These people are under constant threat from their own government and they will die, if they go against their dictator's rule. Let's leave them alone to build their nukes in peace. Bitcoin is for the land of the free. ^hmmmm^

Oh, that's an interesting question!
I can cite the example of Russia which is under economic sanctions.
"The State Duma believe in the ability of blokchain help circumvent Western sanctions"
I think North Korea should take this into consideration, too., too.

However, I found that here ..
Bitcoin in North Korea
During one of the tours Koryo Tours travel agency (which, incidentally, takes bitcoin) one Reddit user under the nickname BitcoinDPRK sent $ 100 to the account in the Bitcoin Florida center for homeless Sean's Outpost.
https://bitnovosti.com/2015/05/29/bitcoin-in-north-korea-and-other-places-youd-never-expect/

PS
just for lulz

"The DPRK claimed that the Bitcoin was invented by Kim Il Sung"  Grin
This became known during the evening air of the radio "Voice of Korea" on Wednesday. According to the North Korean leadership, cryptocurrency Bitcoin was invented himself, Kim Il Sung for the prosperity of the Korean people.
"The great and ingenious Kim Il Sung was not only a great and brilliant military leader, but also has extensive knowledge of cryptography. His constant concern for the prosperity of the free people of Korea and to this day grace overshadows all the progressive forces of the world ", - reported in the transfer.

I have no good idea, but I do have a crazy idea. first, someone who is bitcoiner should become president of North Korea, then he asks his people to use bitcoin  Grin

It could lead to a mass murder, if a group of people start a campaign about BTC such a sad story to make in a fiction though. However it could not be a fiction anymore OP if someone did that. Well it will be on the news though. unfortunately NK is not a nice place to start this advertisement.

I wouldn't play with this. Political commentary aside, NK is one of the more sophisticated state actors when it comes to internet technologies. You have to be in order to pull of some of the madness that's going on over there at the moment, to shield it from the greater public. Is it really worth it?

The danger of breaking a law that will actually be enforced, and with malice, is too much imo.

Its not like it needs to be smuggled in like other items. It is digital so I think getting them in NK is not that hard, but using them and storing them ccan prove to be tricky.

At the end of the day it would be a pointless endeavour since i mean physically it would be possible to get it in their but then what? its on a phone but you cant do anything with it since there no internet to send it, even if you could you wouldnt be able to buy anything since absolutely nowhere in north korea would accept it. The only thing you would get out of it would be a lifetime of hard labour.

There is also the problem of the operating system. In the DPRK all computers are supposed to run "red star", which is a closed source Linux distro that spies on everyone for the DPRK government.

I think that will be very difficult and a risk for the persons running nodes, or using bitcoins. North Korea controls all about its people, they have a local intranet censored.

Do they even have internet connection  Shocked ? trying to get Bitcoin inside North Korea (from the outside) could work however promoting from the inside may just get you killed.

As fascinating the idea is, it's quite difficult to be achieved.
Just like omegastarscream said, there are two possible method to introduce btc to NK, from within the people themselves and from outsider like us. The later will grant us, any of us who tried, an one way ticket to afterlife while the former would need a strong effort and solidarity. The dictatorship that their country applied would mostly scare civilians from trying to introduce something new. A revolution is needed to fight the dictatorship, true, but if they can built such revolution, I think they will focus it on forming a new kind of leadership and ruling system instead of umm... introducing cryptocurrency.
Unless Kim is interested on btc himself.

Dead on.  I personally wouldn't be surprised if KIM was interested in cryptocurrency tho, he was known as a wiz-kid growing up and his rogue nation is known to embark on many illegal transactions, it's undoubted Bitcoin is at least, on Kim's radar.

If he is interested, then its a good start. But NK will still need to address other problems before they can successfully adopt btc. Getting through posts here gave the idea of what factors needed to be thought thoroughly like electricity that's still unstable for some people or NK private internet connection.
