Is that considered good for its price?

I've seen confirmation of £160 ish and a release date of 29th June in the UK.

depends on your power its 24mhs stock at 100 watts if you have cheap power youre better off with your 380s 390s and
280x cards
with an overclock the 480 can probably do 28 mhs with 150 watts oc which is a bit better power wise than a 390

but not worth the upgrade

Now i dont feel so bad. My new equipment arrived today. I ordered 30 380x, 5 290s, 1 390, and 1 390x. I was sure hoping that the 480 was going to be awesome but at the same time i really didnt want to wait any longer. So im kinda glad i went ahead with my order. I may throw another rig or two in with 480s once the drivers are tweaked.

then the 1070 is vastly better because it can do 37MH at peak with less than 150w, and 32MH stable

no other gpu can even dream to come close to this perf per watt, the only downside is that you need linux for this...

If the 480 can only do 24 MH/s at 100W, It is difficult to do 36 at 150W. Then 1070 wins if that can do 37 MH/s at 150W.

yes it can do that but on linux only, waiting for new windows drivers fix to have better hash there

as far as I understand, you will be able to get 2 rx 480s for the price of 1070?

No the 1070 does 31-32 mh  Roll Eyes

http://forum.ethereum.org/discussion/7722/gtx-1070-fe-mining-benchmarks

------

Results as expected, its pretty good if it comes out to be true.  Also the 490 will be released some months later and that has a higher bandwidth memory so results could be quite good with that.

So the 480 is MORE efficient than the 1070 and costs half as much

1070 = 4.68 watts per MH

480 =  4.16 watts per MH

no that is old, check this update http://forum.ethereum.org/discussion/7780/gtx1070-linux-installation-and-mining-clue-goodbye-amd-welcome-nvidia-for-miners#latest

same guy, can do 37MH almost stable, he is tweaking it, 35MH stable at 140w

even if a 480 cost half of it, and can do 48MH with two of them you will consume more, like 50% more for a 33% increase in hashrate (48 vs 37), so it's worse

It seems only the $400 or more expensive R9 490 can beat the $400 1070. I am quite disappointed.

with an bios mode and undervolt i expect the 480 to do closer to 27mhs for 80 watts so it will be alot better than one 1070

30 380x ? you made a mistake on those the 380 mines at same hash rate as the 380x and is cheaper bro

But 380 are voltage locked and 380x aren't.

Well we can't rely on this one single experience. Real picture of this card would come out pretty soon, so I'd try it after seeing some more reviews. Anyone who actually gets it for the actual price would be pretty lucky though, as it's gonna be hard to get it for $199.

Quote
On the other hand the RX 470 could end up being a much more interesting choice for low power Ethereum mining if it manages to achieve the same hashrate, but at a better price when it hits the markets sometime next month.

I'm guessing that 470 could be a better card. Seems pretty interesting.

for me electricity is free so I find a better deal in rx 480s and I am using windows 10 so 480s I will buy..

gotta wait another week and I am loosing patience..
