I think the main reason is awareness of bitcoin and news about it. Even if the news is positive or negative, it brings more people inside bitcoin. I see this temporary popularity and hardly 10 or 20% of it will remain with bitcoin for long period of time. Now if we are considering the potential of bitcoin, I personally think that bitcoin is far undervalued and might reach new levels in mid term (that’s between short and long terms) with constant fluctuations in price. We would see sustainable growth since beginning of 2017 in user base and in price since end of 2017.

Bitcoin was the first among crypto currencies and today it well known. It has power nowadays cause of it's strategy and price. Price is the most important factor here. It is not fixed and exactly that invites more and more investors and traders who wish to earn money on that price difference. But I think bitcoin is only in the beginning of it's history now. And it will be more known and more developed in nearly future.

There will be probably more sophisticated coin in the future(I guess some of altcoins have better properties than BTC already), with better blockchain, faster confirmations, better security and development team.
But they can't copy one thing - the ideal initial distribution of bitcoins. It is so important because at first bitcoin was basically worthless and over time people noticed its potential.
Bitcoin economy developed without intervention of speculators. With new altcoins it is impossible to achieve.

So what it is difference between bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies? and why Bitcoin has become powerful among other currencies and cryptocurrencies ?
Firstly ,let us define bitcoin by defining cryptocurrency briefly then pass to make a contrasts between Bitcoin ,Dogecoin and litecoin .
We hear always that bitcoin is the money of the future .this expectation can be taken seriousely when we see bitcoin nowadays and how much transactions executed per day which is surprising . we can say that bitcoin is a cryptocurrency and cryptocurrency is a money which is not traditional rather it is digital or numerical which works electronically ; the most common cryptocurrencies are Bitcoin , Dogecoin and litecoin and bitcoin has something special in contrast to others and this specialty is represented by the number of transcations made per day and its volume, so bitcoin and litecoin and dogecoin differ in their volumes which will interpret to us that bitcoin has power nowadays.
In fact bitcoin is increasing exponentially in volume and numbers of transactions which will get us to the hell of thinking that bitcoin may take the lead of other cryptocurrencies if we don't say that it will take the lead of traditional currencies.because it has power which can fortify its presence in today world.
what are you trying to compare bitcoin to when you talk about the power of bitcoin? if you mean bitcoin is powerful among other cryptocurrencies like the ones that you have named in you comment then i agree because none of the other cryptos (altcoin) are even close to bitcoin in usability. but if you are comparing bitcoin as a currency with other currencies in general like USD, EUR,... then bitcoin has very little power since the percentage of usage of bitcoin is very small comparing to others. I agree on this statement. Bitcoin as the mother of crypto surely be the most powerful of them, almost all of the new crypto is either clone or fork of Bitcoin. But in real world where real fiat money is there to be compared,, bitcoin is just a baby that has little to no power at this moment but has a great potential if given a chance by the government. |

Bitcoin borned with a great concept, allow anyone to send and receive any ammount anytime with a low fee, something you cant do with bank system, they limit you and even control your money. Bitcoin technology around it has atracted several big corporations as Disney and banks that wanna adopt the same system, saving huge ammounts of money just by adopt the blockchain.

this is one of the most strange topics that i have seen in a while! you are trying to compare bitcoin with two other altcoins (LTC and Doge) and then you conclude for yourself that bitcoin has more power than these two because it has more transactions! that i true but it is not the only reason. litecoin is copy of bitcoin with nothing (really) new to offer and Doge is a joke coin that survived this long because it is funny and people like laughing. |

Yes aside from things you said, it is the first digital currency that was made. All the prices of newly evolve altcoins were based on bitcoins. It is more popular and well known to people who are now experiencing the benefit of paying their obligations in seamless way. It is also now included in trading platform. I am not so sure that bitcoin has the power nowadays but surely it has been getting stronger and much more used compared to a couple of years ago. and I am talking about bitcoin being used as a currency as in shops, merchants and businesses accepting it not the amount of bitcoin being traded.
also since you mentioned a couple of altcoins here I have to say bitcoin has always been far better than all of them and I has always been used a lot more and will continue being like this.

Not only companies but also big personalities. If Youtube CEO accepts bitcoin as their payment to the youtube channels, then youtube is now making the Bitcoin more powerful.

Because bitcoin IS the revolutionary idea. Not some weak ass copy that serves some particular segment of the crypto economy. Almost all alts are trying to fix some perceived problem that does not exist. For example, Ethierum fixed the problem of banks not having the real power.  |

In the final, final analysis, the success or failure of Bitcoin (or gold and silver) depends on the success or failure of the dominant global imperial system headed by the USA and its Federal Reserve.
It all boils down to: what do people trust for storing their hard-earned wealth? Dollars and Treasuries which are actively supported by the imperial elites, or alternative, state-free assets?
When the empire rises, it will have power to suppress all non-state assets which competes with its assets. When the empire is in decline, even its elites have to cultivate non-state assets (as in the re-legalization of gold in the 1970s and the recent legalization of Bitcoin.) Who knows, one day the elites might have to lean on non-state assets to maintain trust in their own money (in the long tradition of pegging one's money against a stronger one.)
To predict the price of Bitcoin, just keep your ears tuned to the news (including 'alternative' media like ZeroHedge.) In the last decade, the empire had a disaster in Iraq followed by a major financial crisis. At this point, social tensions created by economic problems have been pushing US voters to a socialist and Donald Trump (and vassal-state Europe's voters to their 'extremist' candidates and movements.) The future doesn't look good for The Empire, for now.
As they say, money is ultimately a POLITICAL phenomenon. Of course, each 'money' has to have certain technical properties, but all of the above mentioned ones qualify. The rest is left to politics.

Totally agree. Bitcoin is just in the process to get power now. It is still not so much known and for people who do not understand or who even do not try to - bitcoin looks like scam. But among other crypto currencies bitcoin is the most powerful and popular. |
