I was thinking of mining some vcash but im only going to get around 4000mh which i think will get me around 10 a day, The only other option would be to throw some btc at it but its not as easy as the old days since even 0,1 is $66 which seems a lot just to gamble away. Back when price was lower i wouldnt have minded so much.

I also think bitcoin is the only reliable altcoin in this emerging digital economy. But even in the case of our loved bitcoin I also prefer to avoid excessive confidence about its real potential, because all the computational sciences are greatly advancing every day, and I have no doubt that sooner or later this bitcoin could be displaced by one better option.

Vcash! https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1504342.0

- Zerotime: secure instant transactions (0.23s) without possibility of double spend, without use of masternodes and respendable in 1 second

- Chainblender: decentralized, fungible and very fast anon system without blockchain bloat.

- Adaptive block size: "Don't discuss block size. Let the code handle it."

- Can perform thousands of transactions per second more than all transactions with VISA around the world.

- Poloniex audited the code and Vcash is the only altcoin accept with just 1 confirmation.

And much more soon as Zeroledger that will make most crypto-currencies seem like a bloated mess. It compiles and works on all modern OS and game consoles and even on the iWatch OS 2 it uses about 38 MB of RAM.

prolly something that is minable and has a new algo and some nice features, all the ico shit will not skyrocket, ethereum in fact was minable, also it need to be sorrounded by a certain amount of hype...

for now i don't see anything... i doubt it can be something we already know, but vcash, decred and spreadcoin are good canditate, if that is the case..., but in the end...i guess it might be something that still need to be created....

mmh, now that i think about it zerocash is a good option, new algo, no shitty ico, new features etc...it might be zerocash

At the moment I'm just not comfortable spending any bitcoin on alts just because bitcoin has  proved itself for long enough that putting the   bitcoin into anything is a  risky investmen.

Well, here is one that has not been mentioned yet... eMunie and it will finally be in Open Beta in the next few months. It is a pure transactional Database with no blockchain or block-tree. And as far as I know it is the only crypto-currency that has a working debit card system that is connected directly to your personal eMunie wallet.dat with NO 3rd parties to charge the 5 to 10 % fees to the merchants and or customers.

This is the killer feature that will have Joe & Jane Public caring around a crypto currency debit card, and they can even use a tablet to earn eMunie with. The client is only about 25MB in size so it can easily be ported to various phones.  Currently it runs in both windows and linux OS platforms.

1- IOTA        [Internet of Things]
2- eMunie     [elastic supply, decentralised exchange, decentralised debit card etc]
3- Pokereum [decentralised online Poker organised as a DAO]

all are genuine contenders for the 'next big thing'

IOTA, no doubt about it. It's so under the radar, yet works really well. A team that works hard to get a working product before a massive PR push is a winner in my book.

As we've discussed in many threads before (even ones they have closed), Zerotime can't scale.

zerocach could be a good candidate if it is only GPU mineable and the market cap is big enough to absorb the Eth miners.

I would pick Gridcoin (GRC), as it is one of the more interesting coins out there. It's idea is brilliant but also easy to understand for people not in crypto before, see for example this thread that was on the frontpage of reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Futurology/comments/4b4drk/a_currency_minted_by_doing_science/t1_d16hch5

It replaces mining with doing research for scientific projects, for example to cure Ebola (http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/research/oet1/overview.do), fold proteins (https://boinc.bakerlab.org/) or find aliens (http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/).

From a user's point of view, he simply has to run simulations from the different projects using the BOINC software (http://boinc.berkeley.edu/). Then the network comes to a consensus, who has contributed how much computing power to BOINC, which can be seen for example here (http://www.gridresearchcorp.com/gridcoin/?result&t=CPID_Leaderboard). This process is decentralized among all nodes, there is no central server issuing all coins like it is for example the case with Curecoin. In some blocks this consenus is saved in the blockchain and the reward one gets when staking a block is proportional to how much research was recently done for BOINC by this researcher.

The network is secured with Proof of Stake, but there is an additional (much bigger) reward depending on how much research the boinc account associated with the staking node has done.

Setting it all up has been quite complicated in the past, but the pool on pool.gridcoin.co has made alle this easier and already has more than 1100 active miners/researchers (http://pool.gridcoin.co/rankings)

I also has very active development, here is the main forum: https://cryptocointalk.com/forum/464-gridcoin-grc/
More information and tutorial to set it up here: www.gridcoin.us
If you are interested visit our IRC: https://kiwiirc.com/client/irc.freenode.net:6667/#gridcoin

Now that the dao and ethereum have taken a serious knockback after what looked like almost a crypto takeover who do you all think the new kid on the block is going to be? Whos mining what and what coin do you see as having the biggest potential?

It seems to me that for now the only coin worth having is bitcoin, Any other coins out there that aren't shitcoins?
I would say one to watch this year is Loyyal, it is a rewards coin and has some pretty impressive partners and people joining their board
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1508111.0

It is a re-branding from RBR (ribbitrewards) which are still available to buy now, but as to how RBR will exchange to Loyyal once it is released on a new chain is unknown but definitely one to watch.
