If I were to build a freelance board for India along with payment processing from BTC to INR, would there be much traction in India?

I have already spoken to a processor who will convert BTC to INR, so half the work is done.

It is a huge project involving escrow as well, so I want to be sure before I start working on it.

Remember that Bitcoin is still beta software. Don't put all of your money into BTC!

Benson,

Actually it is 3 step task :
1. Finding/Creating the right service for Buyer to buy bitcoins ( ie converting USD to BTC, if buyer is from USA )
2. Escrow between Buyer and Provider
3. Finding/Creating the right service for Provider to sell bitcoins ( ie converting BTC to INR )

There are lots of issues with it like you have to make sure the profit margin of the service should not exceed the spreads of USD-INR spreads and fees charged by money remittance service like Xoom or Paypal. Most important you have to make sure its easy for both Buyer and provider.

We are working on few things but its still in very early phases.

But frankly speaking this is the single most needed feature we need for Bitcoin to gain traction in India. Its a huge huge market.

Cheers

Most of these points have been taken care of.

I need to understand if this will gain traction or if it is a better option to work with someone who already has a job board for Bitcoin.

It will work if advertised properly. All small software companies working on Magento, Wordpress and such tasks at law costs hate Paypal. Both oDesk and eLance charge them around 10% + USD-INR conversion rates generally around at 2 to 2.5%.

If this can be done properly, its a huge gain for Bitcoin.

Software company owners, freelancers etc are correct audience in India to pitch bitcoin as they will be much more comfortable with the concept of Bitcoin.

The other challenge would be to get actual Buyers ( job posters ) on the board.

The way we are working on it is, it will be just used as payment processor while it will actually use oDesk/elance or X as job board.

Cheers

I think we need to create more exchanges in India, the Buy - Sell spread is currently so huge that no one in the country is willing to buy/exchange Bitcoins. And as E-commerce is still only a budding industry in the country not many proprietors accept Bitcoins for goods.

Here is an Interesting page I found, Looks like We can use this page to create awareness and spread the word. https://www.facebook.com/BitcoinIndia

Buysellbitcoin, is correct. I have talked to him personally with him and also done transactions. I think so his experience in BTC/INR is much more than all the any of us in India.
