Bitcoin Block announcement on July 1, 2016

Just launched moments ago:
The BIGGEST thing since Bitcoin itself!

This is it! BTCC Mint launches the Bitcoin Block. It's a full Bitcoin Block Reward (over 25 BTC) in a square block made of pure Titanium, weighing in at 10 ounces (283 grams), with 80 mm sides and 10 mm thick.

The days of the 50 bitcoin block reward are long gone. Soon, the days of the 25 bitcoin block reward will also be history. Capture and preserve this unique moment in bitcoin's history, and order your 25 Bitcoin Block now. Save it for posterity, save it for your kids and grandchildren, and save it because it is the world's only full block reward, in beautiful titanium. The Bitcoin Block is worth more than its weight in gold.

Buy it now, before the block halving in 10 days!  Very limited in quantities, as after the block halving, these will go down to 12.5 Bitcoins in the block reward.

https://www.facebook.com/yourbtcc/posts/899196963540088
https://twitter.com/YourBTCC/status/748528529071960064

You can also customize the Bitcoin Block with a Forever message. This will put your personalized message on both the public Bitcoin Blockchain (in the block header, coinbase transaction), as well as being laser etched onto the back of the physical Bitcoin Block.

Great for gifts, or to celebrate birthdays, graduations, weddings, and maybe even for marriage proposals!

This Bitcoin Block is really for the rich & famous, and also for Bitcoin lovers worldwide.
You can now finally own your own block!

Order yours now at
https://store.btcc.com/

It has two stars next to each other where there should be a denomination so I am going with a commemorative second halving coin.

...worth more than it's weight in gold... Says Bobby Lee Smiley

Sounds like it's going to be valuable. Or it could be a lighter coin/different material which weights less.

Half BTC or less would sell tons, anything over 5 BTC is for large pockets.

Anyway, the new series will be out after the halving as previously revealed, 2 stars on one side 1 star on another, Bobby mentioned previously it will have 3 stars.

I wonder if it's a series of coins which in total add up to 12.5 BTC loaded all from the same block, so a 0.5 BTC, 2 BTC, and 10 BTC set?

Or 2 x fives and 1 x 2.5? or 5 x 2.5 BTC?

It may also be a 12.5 BTC coin, very large that however much it weights the BTC content will still be worth more than if it was made of gold.

Judging from the last image it doesn't appear to be a coin but a bar?

Looks like there is metal outside of the "circle" of where the coin design exists. Just a guess...

My guess is a square block, at 80 millimeters wide and 10 millimeters thick. Each block is made of pure titanium, and weighs in at 10 ounces (283 grams).

It's not really a teaser if you have already put the product in your shop Grin.

I think BTTC still thinks that we are in 2011 when Bitcoin wasn't worth that much and people could afford to spend 5, 10, 25 BTC...
I'm a collector but with much regret I won't be able to afford anything like the last idea.  Angry

completely true!
No doubt , owning a block is amazing but it's not only keeping a huge amount of 25 BTC stuck but paying a 5 BTC premium
Also don't forget the Custom fee which will need to be paid on that

It's evident BTCC is here to make money out of this. Then it's up to collectors to buy into it or not.
I do agree 5BTC premium on the last product and even 1BTC on the 5BTC coin is out of order.

Bobby Lee please consider what you guys are doing and if you want to make a lot of money going forward or just a little from few rich collectors.

I want one, but 30 BTC.  Shocked
Planning to sell these unfunded?

If its sent funded, can it actually be insured....and would you take the risk anyway? And if its insured, wont the import taxes be calculated on it?
Tis the reasons why i wont post my 25BTC Casascius.

However, really like this coin/bar.

All Bitcoin Blocks will be sold funded.  (How could you have an unfunded bitcoin block reward?  Huh)

We will self-insure for the shipping, and hence the premium.  In other words, we will not declare the full BTC value for shipping purposes, and therefore we will not receive the full insurance protection from the shipper.  It's a compromise that our customers prefer.  (Or do you prefer a lower price, and shipped to you with full declared BTC value?)

thanks,
Bobby

Bobby Lee please consider what you guys are doing and if you want to make a lot of money going forward or just a little from few rich collectors.

As mentioned in my past posts, the collectible we are selling is indeed a premium high-end piece.  Low volumes, higher margins.  It is a collectible after all, and it's not meant to be used as a low-overhead hardware wallet for daily storage needs. The bitcoins in it are not randomly taken from the 15+ million bitcoins in circulation.  Rather, they are newly mined, from the limited issuance of 3,600 bitcoins mined a day, and which it will soon be 1,800 next month, and then down to 900/day in less than 4 years.

We don't sell this high-end Bitcoin Block collectibles based on the cost of manufacturing and raw materials.  Our current entry-level product is the One Bitcoin, with a "premium", or price, of 0.15 BTC.  Down the road, if there's interest, we can aim for even lower-end items, but only if we can make the costs work out. Stay tuned.

So the Bitcoin Block you purchase today, with 25+ BTC value in it (remember, it includes all of the TX fees as well), will surely be unique, and frankly, it'll be completely rare and impossible to make in the future.  This is more like a Picasso painting than a Form Model T.

In four years time, think back to today, and ask yourself whether you would have wanted to buy a full 25 BTC Bitcoin Block for this price.  And if you were to have purchased one, what price would it go for in the market in 2020?

I now look at the 25, 100, and even the 1000 Casascius coins from 2012, and ask myself, why didn't I buy one then?  Could I have gotten them for less than 10% or 20% premium?  What do they sell for now?

And like the other forum member said, who will actually sell you a real Bitcoin Block with the full 25 BTC block reward, for like USD $100? or even USD $500?  Really?  Or do you mean just get some new coins mined directly to your address?  And then what will you do with that?  And do you plan to resell that in 5-10 years, and for how much?

thanks,
Bobby

I think, while BTC price increases in value, and certainly higher, theres an argument that says, something like this should be hand-delivered world-wide. The cost of this can be off-set somewhat, with the postal risk and its associated insurance costs. Yes, there may be a problem if the person carrying it is searched and the official makes the coin/bar an issue, but actually, this would depend how a given country treats Bitcoin i.e. imported money is not taxed. You would obviously have to trust your individual courier/carrier, as well.

I agree with the challenges and concerns regarding the risks of losses from shipping.  There's no easy answer, unless people want to come and pick it up in person.

I wouldn't be quick to pay for an item with such a value/premium.  Nice bar/coin, but you're marketing to maybe a handful of users on this forum.

With the premium you're charging (>$4K USD) I would expect this thing to be made of gold.   Wink

EDIT: I know it's 200+ grams, just stating that titanium is not a desirable metal for such a large premium.

If it were really made of pure gold, then it would be forever stuck in your country, as it won't be feasible for you to move it across any national borders.  Remember that border crossing require the declaration of all money, and that includes all precious metals like gold and silver.  Who would do that?

Whereas now, you're freely able to bring the Titanium Bitcoin Block anywhere you want to go.  Just keep it safe.

This Bitcoin Block comes in a very nice solid redwood box.  Are you saying that the redwood material has to be desirable enough to justify the multi-bitcoin premium?

For everyone else, they should go shop for the One Bitcoin (or the Five Bitcoin).

And one more thing:  collectors always want rarity and low issuance.  If this really doesn't sell more than just a few, then there you have it, the ultimate collectible, so rare and with so few in existence.  Such that more cannot be made.

I really like the fact that the bitcoins are freshly mined but that doesn't justify a $3,300 premium at all.

Rarity is a factor but that's just a small piece of the puzzle. I could make a paper wallet made out of cardboard and call it a rare collectible piece. I doubt anyone would pay a high premium for that.

The premium on collectibles usually are created by grading them and after they have been sold out. Casascius wasn't asking high premiums on his coins, that all came later when the coins were sold out or started to be redeemed.

Bobby,
For such a high valued item I would pick it up in person and I'd gladly declare the gold when bringing it back, but that's just me.  Wink

I understand the Titanium is just a container, similar to how copper and brass are common "containers" on other coinage.  It would have been nice to see it in Silver or at the very least Titanium with Gold Highlights.

I don't think the packaging should affect the price since I'm not buying it for the packaging, so I would say no.  I like the design of the bar/coin, just not the price.

What's the big issue with selling an unfunded/buyer funded coin?

$10 worth of titanium for only a 5 BTC markup! Where do I sign up?

That's like asking, is the $10 worth of acrylic case for a "5 oz gold" coin worth the "2 oz of gold" in markup price?

Have you seen the larger 5 oz gold coins, or the 1 Kg gold pieces?  How much are they marked up?   Smiley
For reference, 1 oz gold coins sell for 5% to 10% markup from the spot price of gold, and larger pieces sell for a much higher markup, and come in much smaller mintage numbers.

Do they set the price based on the price of gold?  The raw manufacturing costs?  the price of the acrylic case and the wooden box?

Maybe you're not quite the collector of high end collectibles?  Huh

thanks,
Bobby

One thing I know is rich people don't like to waste their money, yes they may have 25BTC or more but then why lose 5 BTC out of their 25 to buy this block?
Is this block going to go up in value like Casascius coins? it all depends on how collectors value your coins.
You guys have only just started minting coins, wouldn't it be better to start slow, grab as many sales as you can on less expensive items and then do some special editions which cost more?

The way I feel about this is, too many coins, too fast and too high denominations. But that is me. Of course others may think differently.

From our collection of the Bitcoin Blocks mined so far, we have an extra large one:

Block #: 418,402
Address: 16AEBbzXfBuZb6atJu5coDMxtqGR8ieCoK
Bitcoins: 26.03392740

https://blockchain.info/tx/0d36ca5eb506babc58650d42a42e28f1aef1cf5b6d043c3b4c88b933c464efbe

Since it's the largest block mined so far, we are not selling it in the store, but rather, will auction it off in this forum if there's enough interest. (Starting bid for the auction will be 1.00 BTC, with no reserve price.)

If there are at least 5+ parties interested, then I'll start the auction in a separate thread.

thanks,
Bobby

Don't get me wrong, I do like your coins and the fact that BTCC's name is behind a new mint.
I did get some of your previous coins and they look awesome.

Just that when I can't get your new item because it's too expensive... ouch it hurts!

I'd bid for the "superblock" though, hopefully it could sell for less then its weight in gold!  Smiley

That sounds nice and all but I have never heard of or seen an offering like this.  These coins are mined directly to the coins address and are fresh unmoved coins and this is a whole block.  What mining pools sell this service?  I'd be very interested especially if they could mine to an address I provide!

This is a rare item and I think it will sell.  If the premium is too high he won't sell them and will lower the premium.  He is even offering to auction one here for the community to bid on with NO RESERVE.  I think you all sound like a bunch of whiners.

Here is my hopefully worthwhile criticism of the article I just read:

http://www.prweb.com/releases/2016/07/prweb13525983.htm
Quote
The counterfeit-proof hologram sticker is tamper-evident, and has a unique design with the BTCC logo and the words “LIMITED EDITION,” “BITCOIN BLOCKCHAIN BLOCK REWARD,” “NEWLY MINED,” and “N SERIES.” The sticker also contains the public address of the Block, set against a pattern of BTCC logos.

There is no such thing as "counterfeit-proof" anything in this world. With enough money and resources pretty much anything can be counterfeited, even Bitcoin (in a manner of speaking if you have enough hash power).

Perhaps that statement was a mis-speak.

From our collection of the Bitcoin Blocks mined so far, we have an extra large one:

Block #: 418,402
Address: 16AEBbzXfBuZb6atJu5coDMxtqGR8ieCoK
Bitcoins: 26.03392740

https://blockchain.info/tx/0d36ca5eb506babc58650d42a42e28f1aef1cf5b6d043c3b4c88b933c464efbe

Since it's the largest block mined so far, we are not selling it in the store, but rather, will auction it off in this forum if there's enough interest. (Starting bid for the auction will be 1.00 BTC, with no reserve price.)

If there are at least 5+ parties interested, then I'll start the auction in a separate thread.

thanks,
Bobby

I'm in

I'm interested.

Jesus, I'd have to sell a god damn stack of my bullion to afford this, I'd probably rid myself of a proportion of my physical coins too - but I'm in - subject to the fact that if I win the auction you give me 1 week to acquire the BTC to pay you.

This thing is a monstrosity, in an awesome way of course Shocked

Sorry, don't intend on derailing the thread ( feel free to remove if necessary ) but is BTC something that you can be charged import duties on? I thought most countries class Bitcoin as a 'digital token'? I understand the duties on metals etc, but would they really charge duty @ x% of ~£15k?  Huh If so I'm out.

This shipment would be insured by BTCC and for that, they would have to declare the shipment value, i.e 30BTC or 20500 USD (As of now).
Customs fee would be a percentage of this value.

Import duty is for goods/products, not money. So its whether a given country classifies Bitcoin as money or not. A crude rule of thumb, would be if a country charges VAT on Bitcoin transactions or not, IMO. Trouble is, if it is money, then the problem is declaring this money as it enters a given country. All countries have limits to how much is allowed before declaration...or you get a stiff fine. And while Bitcoin price continues moon-like, this item certainly exceeds the vast majority of the limits, out there.

Thanks for the responses cryptoheadd and stereotype, appreciated. Guess I have some investigating to do, better give HMRC a call and see if someone can advise. The main reason for concern would be exactly this - this is sent funded due to the nature of this product. I know when I've purchased coins in the past from Titan and Alitin Mint that they were sent unfunded, with funding being done upon receipt of your order, so the declaration for Customs was just for the metal contents. With an incoming value into a country at ~$20k, I'm assuming you would get stung instantly with full import charges, which would be pretty damn substantial. Tricky indeed Undecided

yeah ... and dont forget VAT considerations/declarations ... these points should have been clearly exposed before .. but they just seem to forgot this.. as they forgot it for the launch of their first physical crypto items.. just  ask to their first customers in EU  what they think about it..

Yes. Same principle of trusting Mike C, smoothie, etc.

Maybe Bobby should explain the manufacturing process, with regards to security, like Mike did years ago.

Do I have to trust the seller with the private key? If I want to keep this long-term, can I ever trust the 25 bitcoin stays in there?

I personally trust BTCC, Bobby Lee and team. Trust is for their reputation, they are well known in the space and have been around for a long time.

However you don't only have to trust the manufacturer but the fact that their list of private keys doesn't get leaked by an employee or misused.
Also they may be subject to hacking and if a hacker gets hold of a list of private keys that could also be disastrous.
Another risk is that in the near future, as computers become more powerful, someone may be able to brute force private keys for BTC Addresses.
And finally some xray scanners, current or future ones, may be able to see under the hologram and allow to read the private keys.
There are other risks like using chemicals to get the holograms off...
Not sure if anyone else is aware of other risks.

There has been one case "coinographic" who made physical Litecoins and other coins and when his company packed up he (or someone related to him) swiped all the Litecoins present in his products, about USD 60,000 worth. I'm not aware of any other case.

There is a note on the BTCC site FAQ page:

How do you ensure the security of private keys?
The private key under each coin’s hologram is produced on a computer that is not connected to the internet during the creation and printing process. The private keys are printed on a secure printer once and the soft copy of each private key is immediately destroyed, meaning that the only copy of the private key left is the printed private key under the coin hologram sticker.

To ensure the highest security standards, the important process of attaching each private key underneath the hologram is performed by BTCC’s chief executive of officer Bobby Lee, or under his direct supervision.

I trust many of the previous and current physical btc manufacturers. In BTC or other crypto nothing is for sure, it can all go downhill tomorrow if someone finds a way to exploit the system.
So even if you have em in your own BTC Wallet there is still a risk that technology advancements may put your coins at risk.

But for me having a physical BTC is so cool, I like looking at them, feeling them (with gloves LOL), collect the different types.

Is that an official bid or will there be a seperate thread with auction terms and conditions made...ending time, bid increases, etc.?

Hi all,

It looks like we have enough people for an auction!  Yay.  Smiley

I would like to start the auction in a separate thread.  I believe that would be the right practice, correct?
I'm still a relative newbie on this site, so your comments/suggestions would be appreciated.

The auction item:
BTCC Mint - Bitcoin Block
Block #: 418,402

This is a really cool auction.  This is the largest block that we have mined so far for this product!
I can't say it's the largest block ever mined, but certainly, it's very rare to see a block with over 26 BTC in size.

(Sorry, I don't have photos of this one yet; will post as soon as that's all ready.)

Some more questions to see all of your input:
- What auction terms should we set?
- I've already said that this would be a NO RESERVE auction, with initial bid at 1 BTC.
- Again, the bidding price would be for the whole block.  So we are bidding on the whole block, and NOT on the "premium" portion.
- How long should we set the auction to run for?  24 hours? 3 days?  7 days?
- What's the minimum bid increase amount?  Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Bobby

Is that an official bid or will there be a seperate thread with auction terms and conditions made...ending time, bid increases, etc.?

Hi all,

It looks like we have enough people for an auction!  Yay.  Smiley

I would like to start the auction in a separate thread.  I believe that would be the right practice, correct?
I'm still a relative newbie on this site, so your comments/suggestions would be appreciated.

Do I have to trust the seller with the private key? If I want to keep this long-term, can I ever trust the 25 bitcoin stays in there?
Yes. Same principle of trusting Mike C, smoothie, etc.

Maybe Bobby should explain the manufacturing process, with regards to security, like Mike did years ago.

Hi all,

Yes, I'm happy to explain this.

The manufacturing process for the Bitcoin Block is somewhat different than for the other BTCC Mint coins.
The reason is how the final product looks like, where the Block number, the BTC amount are laser etched onto the nugget.
(We call it the bitcoin nugget!)

First of all, I've set aside and created a bunch of dedicated private/bitcoin addresses to make these nuggets.  The private key creation is all done on an offline computer, and the files are never sent electronically over the wires, nor do they ever touch an online computer at all.  The private keys are all stored securely on a spinning HDD.  The drive is encrypted, and the file is held inside an encrypted volume on the drive.  The hard drive is always kept in a safe, only accessible by me, and not touched by any other members of the company.  The drive will be erased, wiped, and physically destroyed once the printing of keys have been done after this batch of the 25 BTC nuggets.  For reasons obvious to all members of this forum, the handling of the hard drive and electronic file containing the private keys is a very sensitive affair.  I am fully aware of the dangers and security risks associated with this, and I have taken all these steps to ensure the safety of these funds, and the reputation of BTCC.

The corresponding public address have been used to make the hologram stickers, where the address is printed onto the sticker, just like the other BTCC Mint coins.  However, this is a different, second generation sticker, specific for the N Series, and has a few more anti-counterfeiting features, such as micro printing and some 3D effects of our logo.

Here is the assembly sequence:

1) We mine the block into the address.  We check and double check, to make sure the addresses, block height, and amounts are recorded correctly.
2) We then laser etch the information of the mining details onto the top side of the physical block, including the corresponding QR code of the bitcoin address.  Optionally, we would laser etch the Forever message on the backside of the block, if that was custom ordered.
3) After the block is made, we check again, to ensure the bitcoin address, block number, and BTC amounts all match.
4) Then, in a private setting, I would personally print the private codes, machine cut them into the small circles, and then attach to the block with the hologram sticker, one block at a time.  (This whole step is done by me completely, with at most one senior company management team member helping, but never leaving them alone with the sensitive private ket material.)
5) Once the full block is made, it is wrapped and then sent for storage in a safe/vault, before being sold or shipped.

Please let me know if you guys have any other questions.

thanks,
Bobby

For the auction bidding, I was trying to say that the price you bid would be for the whole thing (the physical block, plus the 26+ BTC in it...)  This means that the market value of the item should be at least 26 BTC...  But in any case, we will start the auction at 1 BTC, as a form of sincerity.

The BTCC Mint store is selling the Bitcoin Blocks for 30 BTC, and all of those block are under 26 BTC in size.
So I wouldn't be surprised to see this sell for over 30 BTC, but that's really up to you guys, to see who wants this the most!

Again, this is a special treat to this Bitcoin Talk Forum community, to offer you this very special large block, #418,402.

I will suggest increments of 0.10 BTC.

As for sniping, what are ways of disallowing it?  Are you suggesting that we require minimum "cool-off" time after the last bid, for that bid to be valid as the final bid?

thanks,
Bobby

The way to prevent sniping is to say every bid made within X minutes before the end of the auction extends bidding by Y minutes.
For example, every bid within 5 minutes to the end, extends the auction by 10/15/20 minutes...
However that could drag on forever, I like more when bidding ends at time x and get it over with. Bid within that time and you have a chance to win.
See what others say too as many don't like sniping. Seen that BTCC is a Chinese company how would Chinese people bid on this?
Maybe you could try some Chinese Auction style (if any different), curious to see if there are alternatives we could try on this forum for such an exciting and worthwhile item. Smiley

I will also be surprised if this would sell for 30BTC or over but you never know. It would be a good test.

Increments of 0.10 sounds reasonable for such a valuable item. I also like the no reserve price for the whole thing, that will make the bidding even more interesting. Wink

Also yes another thread would be nice, with pictures and terms of the bid as well as start and end date and time. I suggest using the forum time so it's easier for everyone to figure it out.
Add details on if winning bid is not paid within x hours, second bid will be taken in consideration, and so on.

One important note would be on shipping, first, does the auction winning bid include shipping to whatever country? Are there any country excluded? (Maybe US?)
Second, how is BTCC going to declare the shipping of the item? With the total value of BTC? Insured... Or just the value of the block?
Because import taxes could be huge depending on the choice above. Also important for people who are interested to bid (as well as buy in-store) so they know what to expect and are ready for eventual extra charges.
Any extra info you could add to the auction OP would be appreciated.

Looking fwd to it!  Smiley Cheesy Grin

Allowing it is setting a hard date and time.

Disallowing it would to either:

1) allow for time increments between bids near the end of the auction and after that time increment has expire with no new bids the auction would end.

2) another option is to say "the auction will end at or around x day"

This way you can end the auction randomly at a moment's notice.  This way people are forced to put in their highest bid and there isn't a rush of bids at the last minute.

It's all dependent upon your approach.

(Or do you prefer a lower price, and shipped to you with full declared BTC value?)

thanks,
Bobby

So... Let's get this clear for everyone before we start bidding shall we?
You WILL definitely self-insure for this item, so in effect lowering the customs declaration? What value will you place on these? And what protection is in place for the consumer if something goes wrong?

Thank you Bobby Smiley

Bobby,

i would like to thank you a lot for all those clarifications.
I think this should help many of us to understand  on how BTCC own this part of security purpose , what is indeed a really important part of the process..  especially for these kind of amounts.

Very cool idea, I like that you have the ability to lookup a coin via their address on your website. Not many have that option... usually if they do its a txt file or a smattering of bitcointalk postings.

Any chance on getting a public address list for 3rd party scanners like me?  Smiley

I wouldn't be quick to pay for an item with such a value/premium.  Nice bar/coin, but you're marketing to maybe a handful of users on this forum.
With the premium you're charging (>$4K USD) I would expect this thing to be made of gold.   Wink
If it were really made of pure gold, then it would be forever stuck in your country, as it won't be feasible for you to move it across any national borders.  Remember that border crossing require the declaration of all money, and that includes all precious metals like gold and silver.

True. Gold is highly regulated, taxed and controlled. Very hard to move around and sell legally.
Physical titanium BTC > Physical Gold

And one more thing:  collectors always want rarity and low issuance.  If this really doesn't sell more than just a few, then there you have it, the ultimate collectible, so rare and with so few in existence.  Such that more cannot be made.

A fact that need to be reminded even to collectors.

We'll ship it to you, and only declare the item for around USD $100, as a titanium collectible.  This way, you will have minimum import tax/duties on your end.

We will self-insure the item, and won't insure via the shipper (which would obviously require a much higher declaration, if we used shipper insurance).
However, we will require signature on delivery.

We will start the auction soon!

Please let me know if you guys have any other questions.

thanks,
Bobby

sounds very thourough, but i can only imagine how difficult it would be to wipe/destroy the harddrive at the end knowing it has everything you need to access thousands of bitcoins. even to keep it safely hidden in secret for 20 years could make you redonkulously wealthy if/when you decided to access even just a few of the keys.

can a buyer submit thier own address (ideally BIP32), or allow you to produce the BIP32 address for them? it would eliminate the risk of theft by BTCC or after-sales theft from wherever the buyer keeps his block

Thing is some of the buyers are going to re-sell the BTTC blocks, many will keep them I'm sure. As a potential new buyer who is to be trusted more: BTCC (which is a publicly known company) or some private who created their own address and private key? For your own cold storage being the only one who has the private digits makes sense. However as we have seen with Casascius 25 BTC coins these things eventually sell out and they become more valuable than they originally cost, so it is very tempting to want to sell. What if in the future (after BTCC allows people to use their own addresses) there are some cases of theft, how is that going to reflect on BTTC and on the physical bitcoin market in general?

fair enough, but i see the block as something id love to preserve (hologram and all) even if/when i spend the funds. using a bip32 method would make it insecure for resale and I would probably need something included in the engraved message to that extent.

If you want to make your own cold storage or coin or storage device, I am sure they would entertain the idea of mining directly to a public key you provide.  It may be expensive and it also may require a very very large deposit in the case such as someone making a mistake of using an abnormally high transaction fee.

This is great,

I've always wanted to have a full block on a physical metal. The ecosystem just wasn't mature enough for it back when it was 50BTC reward. Small miners had no financial ability to manufacture these things.

Buying these means that the buyer will have to align their interest with BTCC and continue their survival. The way I see it from the business stand point is that there are no bad consequence of keeping the private key without destroying them. The only potential bad outcome is if Chinese government decides to raid BTCC and found the private keys. Remember that Mike of Casacius coin got a visit from FBI as well, so if he had kept the keys back then, I am very sure that the FBI has access to those and all of them should've ended up in Mark Force's secret wallet by now.

Pure business wise, the reason why Bobby will not use the private keys for his own gain is because if he does, the reputation hit to BTCC will be too great. Which means that their financials will have to be so bad that they need the cash flow from these blocks to tide over the year.

I look at bitcoin the same way I looked at the old roman empire when they started minting their coins with composite metal instead of pure gold and pure silver. What happened was that the pure ones gets taken out of circulation and hoarded while the newer composites gets used in daily transactions. When the shit hit the fan, the pure old coins can always get melted down and converted to the next currency while the newer composite with no precious metal content is worthless.

There's more and more debate about taint and colored coins. What we need to understand is that a newly minted coin that has never been passed around can always be trusted as something pure, that's never been used for nefarious purposes. The court cannot argue that it is used in drug trades if it is a minted block that's never been used.

As for BTCC, I have a request for these blocks. Can you also send a certificate of ownership chain like what Mike did to his customers?

We can look at the timeframe between the last rally and the present to get a pretty good guess of the impact to the physical bitcoin market.
As soon as prices rise, market demand increases multiple-fold. However, this demand is not equal across all pieces.
The number of people that could afford a 100 BTC bar at $20 Bitcoin ($2,000 spot value) is very different than the number of market participants that can afford it at $350 BTC ($35,000 spot value).

So we have two competing forces:
a) The demand-increasing effect being exerted on the market as a whole.
b) The demand-shifting effect from higher-spot pieces to lower-spot pieces as price increases.

Right now (and for the past 3 years), this has left the premium physical collectible market in a gap - it needs to cross the chasm. Once HNWIs begin to consider premium cryptocurrencies as belonging in their portfolio of safe-haven assets, I expect the same violent price increase we see in the lower-cost collectibles to be applied to the higher end items.  This first spike will vary from all other price changes in the future, as it reflects the first 'filling in' of market demand in a still infantile market.

While I've held the above market theory for years, it has never been clear precisely what the catalyst would be which would generate that burst of demand and trust at the high-value piece level.

I maintain that the emergence of BTCC offering new, trusted pieces at both the average investor level as well as the premium level, alongside already strongly positive Bitcoin fundamentals, will serve as precisely the catalyst that is needed to reawaken the market.

There is yet another effect which tends to have a net-positive price effect on premium items. They are the first to be sold. Just look at the ratios of Redeemed pieces go up as the spot value goes up:
http://www.spotcoins.com/bitcoin/casascius

This makes sense. As price keeps going up, eventually divesting from the physical pieces becomes necessary, as they are not divisible.  If you hold a 25 BTC bar and it is your only Bitcoin left, this creates immense selling pressure, as we are still in the chasm. Once a few high-end pieces are publicly snapped up (the stealth acquisition has been going on for years), I expect valuations for high end pieces to appreciate significantly and rapidly.  There is a lot going on behind the scenes; I would not be surprised to see a few high-profile sales within the next few months.

Thanks peterengy.

Go ahead and order your Bitcoin Block.  Even though you can no longer customize the Forever message for these BTC25+ blocks, you can, however, choose from the list of blocks available:
https://store.btcc.com/products/2016-n-series-bitcoin-block

It also comes with its own unique custom certificate of ownership.

Let us all know how you like it!

thanks,
Bobby

We have shipped our Bitcoin Blocks!  They went out via DHL on Friday, July 15.
They should arrive at your doorsteps early this week.

Please note that we have requested that the purchaser directly signs for the package!
The customs value was declared at USD $100.

For all of you interested in some official mintage statistics of our BTCC Mint Bitcoin Block:

As the block halving is now over, we have finished making all pre-halving "2-star" blocks:
That's it!  It's done.  No more can be made of the 2-star ones!

- 93 Titanium blocks
- of which 8 pairs are sequential blocks, sold as "Doubles" (rest of 77 are regular "Singles")
- 1 Error block, double funding (blocks 418419 and 418427)
Total made: 94

Late last year in December 2015, in anticipation of our launch of the Bitcoin Block, we mined a bunch of newly-generated coins into special addresses made exclusively for the Bitcoin Block.  Here are the stats for the 2015 version of the 2-star:

Bitcoin Block, 2015 N Series (2-star):
- These were all mined in December of 2015, and made into Bitcoin Blocks now
Total made: 16

Will someone post some nice unboxing photos please? Smiley

Quick question, whats the count for 1btc and 5 btc coins left of the pre halving coins?  Thanks.

Sure. For all of you interested in some official mintage statistics of our BTCC Mint coins:

As the block halving is now over, we have finished making all pre-halving 2016 "2-star" coins.
That's it!  It's done.  No more can be made!

One Bitcoin, 2016 V Series (2-star):
- 100 Artists Proofs, of which 97 are Gold-plated alloy, and 3 are Titanium (blocks 394051, 394111, 405240, and 405251)
- 1,350 Regular Titanium coins
- 25 Titanium coins, in "Twins" (double-funded by sequential blocks 413851 and 413852)
Total made: 1,475

Five Bitcoin, 2016 V Series (2-star):
- 5 Artists Proofs, "Baby" sized 43mm Titanium (block 416067)
- 500 Standard 50mm Titanium coins
- of which only 21 of the 5-set were made, where all 5 coins in the set are mined from the same block
Total made: 505

thanks,
Bobby

Has anyone purchased these coins? Can vouch for quality?

Are they tracked on blockchain explorer in any cool way like Mike's coins?

Yes singles and halves.  They are nicely done.  I havent personally seen the other products of higher denominations.  And there is a tracker that i believe anduck made.  Cant find the link but in sure someone here has it
