I think there are 3 typically mistakes people do : -

1) If you win some good amount in start itself , you should take profit and leave which people dont do.
2) If you are on losing end they play more to recover that loss and mostly end up in a more big loss.
3) One should always give a break to gamble else it will become addiction and you will not be able to quit gambling easily .

I know a person with a gambling addiction, He was always fighting with his wife and left his job and just stay at home. He is a great man when i was a kid but since he become addicted on casino, He became a worst man i ever know. Actually it brings more fools to comment on stuff that they never try. There are so many that keep saying this however there is no mistake when you do one thing. There are many people that could earn money from gambling and yet most people choose to earn huge. Most ended up losing more than what they expected. People are just too dumb to realize that this thing wont work in their favor unless they 'know how' , obviously EV- games wont do any favor in the long run

The biggest mistake for a player is the inability to stop in time. If you have a limit above which you don't lose then I think any problems will not be. Same thing with the win, you need to stop.
